First of all; be aware that it takes AT LEAST a year to learn the techniques. These include gutteralls, screams, pig squeals etc. You must warm up your vocals for at least 40 minutes before trying (You're in choir; you'll know how to.)
Also, drink a lot of water before, after and during practice, and do not actually scream, as screaming is a sudden gush of breath squeezed through tightened vocal chords.

Take practicing slowly, with only a couple of minutes a day with a lot of rest until you strengthen your vocals and get the correct technique, otherwise, you may lose your voice.
Also, decide whether you want a low or high pitched scream to start with. After you master one, the other is easier to achieve.

The first thing to learn is a pig squeal, some people call it "bree-ing".

1.Breath in heavily to get the feeling of what is required to perform this technique.

2. Try breathing in heavily again, adding a raspy quality to the inhale. The noise that comes out should sound something like the stereotypical asthma attack that you'd see on a TV show, or even the ghost in The Ring. After being able to create this harsh breathing noise, form different "oh", "oo" and "ee" vowels using your lips, and mouth while in breathing. Some can achieve a better tone by manipulating the sound with their tongue. This is done my moving the tongue into different positions within the mouth, most of which involve making contact with the roof of the mouth.

3. Achieve correct lip and tongue placement to achieve different tones, the last step is to learn to "pull" in forcefully enough (still with the raspy quality mentioned before) to add a high-pitched squeal to the noise. You pull in like when your sucking on a straw. Thats how it should feel, but alot tighter. You may think that this means that a pig squeal is always high-pitched, but this is not so. If you change your mouth position, the pitch of the squeal will change accordingly. Forming the shape for an "E" or sometimes an "A" causes it to be higher in pitch, while forming an "O" will drop the pitch.

NOTE: For first timers, listen to the song Chased Through The Woods By A Rapist or Bloodsplattered Satisfaction by Waking The Cadaver. These songs are very good for learning how to bree because the pig squeal is very clear

- Often, excessive in-breathing may cause a tickle in the throat for a while, or a slight cough. However, nothing serious usually arises from this.

GROWLING:
Try gurgling without water, using the phlegm and saliva in the back of your throat. Once you get that, try it breathing outwards. You should be able to get a deep, animal-like growl that you can incorporate words into.

SCREAMING:
- Try going sssssss quietly and then increase in volume. The feeling in your stomach is your diaphragm. This is what you want to feel when performing death metal vocals.

- Fill up your chest/diaphragm with air, then push all that air out at once. The resulting sound should hopefully be the type of low grunt that you want to achieve, so work on that.

- Pick a lyric you want to perform. Always try to pick songs from bands like Slayer, Metallica or other bands who do not use the death grunts as it will be easier to rehearse your grunts. Try singing it normally, then slowly add more "fire" to it, until you can feel your diaphragm really pushing and you're getting that deep sound you're looking for. If you don't succeed in the deep guttural vocals try the raspier approach to these vocals like Mark Hunter of Chimaira. Anyone can achieve this, men as well as women (listen to the current vocalist for Arch Enemy). So long as your vocal range is Alto or lower. Arch Enemy's Vocalist Angela Gossow is an alto, and will say herself, if you are a Soprano, don't even try Death Growls.

- Practice barking like a dog, not just a bowow, but force it out from the bottom of your belly, really imitating the barking sound. Then extend the barking sound and try it with several words and before you do it take a deep breath and go from your diaphragm. Breathing like a dog, as stupid as it sounds, can also help you open your throat and get a guttural sound to your grunts. Don't do it loudly at the beginning, increase your volume as you get better at it.

- After you've mastered basic death grunts, move on to bigger things. Make your grunts louder, faster, lower, deeper, or all of the above. It will help add some variety to your vocals.

- After you've mastered death metal vocals, try to mix things up by learning another vocal style, because even the best death metal vocalists don't use only death grunts in their songs. For example, George Fisher of Cannibal Corpse is known for having high-pitched screams in a few of his songs and Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder has been known for using a mix of death grunts, high-pitched shrieking and screaming. Piq Squeals are also performed by a few Death Metal artists. Also, start headbanging when you're performing the vocals, it will make your presentation seem a lot more intense!

- To create a more "brutal" sound, you can experiment with saliva in your mouth. It can be trapped between your tongue and throat. It's that "gurgling" you hear in many songs. An open throat is the key. The notes sung and air must come up with ease. One can use their tongue to deflect air being forced up and change tone. The lips are the second method of changing tone. You should never change tone by tightening your throat. There are many techs used in harsh vocals, but keep with a simple growl and scream until you've gained quite the skill within this vocal type.

- Switching between screaming vocals and clean like such bands as Reign Of Chaos or Trivium who only have the one singer it is best to focus on breath control more, some bands have 2 singers one for clean vocals and one for the screaming side but if you are singing solo you are best to focus on breath control more than anything before this is attempted as your clean vocals may sound really off. Practice makes perfect.

make it sound very scratchy....and just sream as loud as you possably can...it's hard to get rid of that sweet choir voice

o0o hunny.
choir voices are so much better.it could damage your voice completely after a while. you SHOULD stick with it BUT...

for the Metal voice, you need to practice.
scream from your diaphragm if you know what i mean.
(low, belly scream)
then practice getting the scream in the back of your throat if you get me?

hope i helped.

You're not going to be a good bass if you try to learn how to sing metal/hardcore. If you're a decent singer, you should be fully aware that screaming like the people you're talking about is going to ruin your vocal chords in a matter of years.
