How much money is lost when music is shared through P2P or downloaded illegally?!

Question: That's a hard equation, because it's not as simple as all that. The naive way of thinking is that "well, X amount of songs have been downloaded illegally, they should have cost Y dollars each, so we have lost X*Y dollars." That is obviously false reasoning. Most of the music downloaded illegally would never have been bought by the downloader anyway. In addition, many people buy the albums they really like to support the artist, and many people discover new artists by illegally downloading them in the first place. Bottom line is: illegal downloading means that artists get heard a LOT more. That translates into more CD sales, more concert tickets, merchandise, etc etc.

The question is if any money is lost at all. The music industry is still alive and kicking, almost ten years after illegal downloading started in force.

no money is LOST, it's just NOT GAINED by capitalists who already have more money than they know what to do with!!!!!BOO HOO

No idea but there was this news about a single mother who was fined $250,000 for illegally downloading a little less than 4,000 songs off the internet.

My best guess is if each legal Cd cost around $20.00 and they usually came with around 14 songs.....each song will cost about $1.40.(Cd and package cost only 99 cents)
So this big companies are losing around $1.40 per song downloaded illegaly. You know you can download 14 songs in a minute.........or per seconds......and how many you have on your mp3 or hard drive :)
I dont think they will go out of bussiness because of this or piracy !
I know piracy and illegal downloading sites are making money of this new kind of bussiness , so probadly is not a good idea?
