Should I play bass guitar or cello?!

Question: I want to be in a band in the future and am currently learning to play the cello (not for the band). I'm not as happy playing it as I thought I would be. I always play around with my electric guitar - most of the time pretending to play the bass guitar. Though, I feel as if there is more options of music to play on the cello than the bass guitar - that the bass guitar only sounds good with drums etc. And if I don't get into a band, then playing the bass guitar would seem useless. What do you suggest?

Why choose? In the most successful and talented bands, everyone plays more than one instrument.

It sounds like you're pretty keen to learn bass, so I think you should go for it. But since you've already started cello, keep at it. I didn't enjoy playing the flute for the first year, and now I love it and was even invited to play it in a jazz band (plus it gets me invites to lots of weddings so I can play there). It takes some time and effort to get good enough to be able to make the sounds you want to make. But that'll be the same for bass guitar. Improvisation comes later, but it does come.

What about double bass? Bands use them instead of bass guitar, and you could transfer your existing cello skills to it...

PS: Bass guitar is also pretty versatile, as long as you get a classical training.

i would go for guitar coz i love the way they sound...
good luck
