Did you ever love a song as a kid only to find out it had a really creepy story !

Question: I remember riding in my mom's car singing the words to Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot" with my sister at the top or our lungs. We had no idea we were talking about Bud Dwyer or suicide, we were just singing along and having a blast. I am pretty sure we thought it was about soccer..hahaha. Makes me feel kinda weird now when I hear it. Same scenario with "Plush" by STP. It's funny how innocent things were :)

The ultimate creepy song: Timothy by The Bouys. Tells the story of three miners trapped in a mine. Only two are found, and they're not interested in eating after their ordeal. (But, in the words of American Bandstand, "It had a nice beat and you could dance to it.") It was banned from most US radio stations, but was still a big hit.

The ultimate "Ha! I gotcha!" song: Lola by The Kinks.
" Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand
why she walks like a woman and talks like a man."
Priceless.

Pink Floyd's whole Dark Side of the Moon cd.

no

Sting/ Police 'I'll be watching you'. Stalker's anthem.

YES ALL THE TIME

*thinks* Oh, I remeber Piano Man by Billy Joel. I had no earthly idea that he was singing about people getting drunk.

Yes.
She Thinks my Tractor's Sexy by Kenny Chesney, and Discovery Channel. I don't know who performs that last one <<;

Not as "creepy", per se, but I listened to country music as a child and the song "Fancy" by Reba McIntyre I thought was really nice. I even asked my mom what it was about and she told me that the girl worked at a restaurant or something .. later in life I finally checked it out and figured out that she was a prostitute.

Nice.

HOTEL CALIFORNIA...read agn...the lyrics kinda creepy

yeah, more innocent times when and where I was a kid

its more just what and when the song takes you back to that matters I think

don't worry about it

Totally....

I used to love the song "Every breath you take" and now, when I hear the lyrics it reminds me of a creepy stalker. Same with "Push" which is basically about an abusive guy.

never herd of that song

Sure. And some books and stories too. And I loved them even more when I found out the "rest of the story".

Devo "Whip it"

I only recently found out that Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" was about a boy who shot himself in front of his class at school. Ewww. I read about it on Wikipedia.

And I was also creeped out to learn that Prince's "Little Red Corvette" wasn't about a car. The "Corvette" is actually a woman's.... uhhhh... Nevermind.

Randy Newman's Short People. Kind of a Let's Kill all the short people song.

Ministry- scarecrow. Loved the song as a kid. It was just dark and plodding. I always used to hear it as just talking about the post nuclear war world. Then in my 20's I listened to it and realized that they were mocking the crucifiction of christ.
Weird how you never notice eh?

Yes!
"Deuce" by KISS.
I remember singing to my mom "Baby if you're feelin' good. I feel it if you're feelin' nice. You know your man is workin' hard, he's worth a deuce!
Haha. Wow.
Same with, "Calling Dr. Love" by Kiss and "You Shook Me" by ACDC.

Well the songs that I liked as a kid were just dirty, not creepy. The Spice Girls, almost all of their songs are extremley dirty if you listen to them now! Also a song by Offspring, Give it to me Baby! Dirty Dirty! Things were so much more innocent!

Yes, many songs are like that. You just love the melody and beat, not thinking what the subliminal message or blatant message is! Think about the nursery rhyme, Three Men in a Tub!!. I am sure when it was written, it had no meaning whatsoever, but today, watch out.

yeah every step you take by sting or police ( i lose track) cos it is about a stalker

yeah, i used to love that song seasons in the sun by Terry Jacks, then i found out who wrote it and why!

well no so much as a kid but I loved this one song called 'mein teil' and it is by rammstein so it is in german so I never really knew what it meant but then I found the lyrics in english and here they are you tell me how creepy is this I know i got a best answer for this one:

“Looking for a well-built 18 to 30-year-old to be slaughtered”
The Master Butcher

Today I will meet a gentleman
He likes me so much he could eat me up
Soft parts and even hard ones
are on the menu

Because you are what you eat
and you know what it is

It is my part – no
My part – no
There that's my part – no
My part – no

The dull blade good and proper
I'm bleeding heavily and feeling sick
Although I have to fight to stay awake
I keep eating while in convulsions

It's just so well seasoned
and so nicely flambéed
and so lovingly served on porcelain
And with it, a good wine
and gentle candlelight
Yeah I'll take my time
You've got to have some culture

Because you are what you eat
and you know what it is

It is my part – no
My part – no

Because that's my part – no
Yes it's my part – no

A cry will ascend to heaven
It will cut through hosts of angels
Feather-flesh will shriekingly fall
from the top of the clouds onto my childhood

Hmm, yeah. The 70s pop song "Claire" by Gilbert O' Sullivan has a cute, melody & lyrics on the surface. I liked it as a kid, but looking over the words as an adult, man. It really sounded 'molester-like'. I guess that's what living in the 2000s does to your head, b/c I'm sure the song is totally innocent.

i loved that one hit wonder -turning japanese, by the vapors.

i used to sing it all the time (who didnt) i did not know it was about masturbation...

Many moons ago I used to love a song by British Tommy Steele called Little White Bull. It sounded so damn cute, and a tappy little tune too! I found out when I was a bit older it was about bull fighting! And I'm an animal lover! You ever seen how a bull is treated in a bull ring? You've got all these dudes with fancy names teazing and inflaming the creature, and wearing him down, then the smartarse matador comes in, in all his self percepted glory to kill this awesome and magnificent animal. Then he becomes a national hero! Excuse me dears, whilst I have a spit in disgust. Spides.

not creepy songs, just songs about sex and stuff. i had no idea what i was listening to back then but now its really funny to look back and see all the crap you were singing about when you were seven.

I could see not knowing who it was about (Lyrics mention no names), but I'm not sure how you misunderstood the lyrics. The chorus lines of the song are...

"A man
Has gun
Hey man
Have fun
Nice shot"

and then

"I wish I would've met you"

I thought it was rather clear...

I tend to think of a more cleverly disguised song being something like the Beatles, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Its not difficult for your average person to know its about LSD but as a child you'd never pick up on that. It would just have some weird lyrics.

Yeah, Cher's responsible for two of them: Half Breed and The Way of Love (Lesbian Love Song)...

Clapton's "COCAINE"

"I'll be watching you" by the Police sounds like a romantic song. It was "our song" when the wife and I were dating, until we found out it was written about Communism and big brother.
