Can I change from active to passive pickups for my bass?!

Question: I have an Ibanez GSR200.. I've only been playing for like 5 months. I play the snot out of my bass.. I play it a lot.
and since i have active pickups.. im always changing a 9V battery with a screwy battery door.
Anyways.. the real question is..
will it hurt my bass to replace the actives with passives?
is it even possible?
and if so.. will it cost a buttload of money and pain in the rear?
thanks.
oh and as far as style of music..
im mostly rock/alternative.
i play finger style and im learning to slap.

(by the way if you look at a pic of the bass it has 2 PBass pickups for the necks and a jazz for the bridge)

not a problem.. all you have to do when replacing the PU's is remove the batterty from the circuit.. I can reccomment a few pickup sets..

Hi M T--

You *can* change the pickups from active to passive, but bear in mind that going from active to passive, you'll be noticing a huge difference in output, both in terms of tone and power.

You state that you're constantly changing the 9V battery in your current setup; this might sound like a trivial thing to ask, but are you unplugging the cable from the cable jack on your bass' body when you put the bass down? Plugging a cable into the bass output jack turns the active setup on, whether you're playing or not, so if there's a cable plugged to the bass while you're sleeping at night, it's as demanding on the battery as if you were actively playing (even if the other end of the cable ISN'T connected to any pedals/amps). When you unplug it, it turns the circuit off (i.e., no battery drain).

Something to consider. :)
