Why is metal music so controversial?!

Question: Because it has always been outside the mainstream. The music itself embraces subjects like the devil or other varying forms of dark matter which scares the fundamentalists to death. Not to mention by its nature it's a lot louder and more abrasive which most people aren't equipped to handle. Therefore, the easiest thing to do is to be against that which we can't understand.

It's not really, a lot of people just don't like it. Marilyn Manson and antisemitistic music is contraverial, a lot of music like that just happens to be metal.

because of the things they do outside the music, drugs, sex, and many many weird things.

i respect what people can listen, but personally i dont like metal, its too loud for me.

Because people dont understand it so they try to tear it down without even realizing that it has a meaning and stands for something,it gets stereotyped and judged and they dont even listen to it,people just like to point fingers and pick on something so the "devil's music" becomes an easy target as a cancer to their perfect world,it's just a pathetic way to pass blame

Metal is retro, whats old is new. its initially not for a young audiance nowadays as the prefer other things to listen to. But Metal rock was one of center aspects that invoked behavior which lead to a lot of the other forms of rock.

A whole bunch of misconceptions

Because of what it is on the surface, by that I'm refering to the clothing, dark themes, and over all vibe it gives off. It really shouldn't be though, when you really look at it, most metal bands today would largely be ignored if it weren't for the little controversy it causes, most of today's metal is alot of banging and the same lyrical themes that have been repeated for about ten years now.

So 20-25 years ago I'd say metal was controversial because it challenged society and alot of the injustices in the world, and on top of all that it gave the alienated and those who found joy in dark themes/sounds an outlet for emotions that society at the time felt should be hidden or repressed.

but today I'd say metal is somewhat controversial because it's tired and would have a really hard time surviving without it, I haven't lost faith though :), I know there are good metal bands out there :) I'm sure of it

I wish I could really give you a good answer but I have no idea really. I guess its because Metal is so powerful and goes deep into the soul that people who don't like it think metal fans are possessed by the devil because they love it so much.

i dunno

dont like metall.. hey funny thought.. can u imagine how rotten the lead singers throat would feel after a concert?

I guess because of the sterotype.

I like it tho. some of it. :]

Because people are stupid.

Because people don't like it when other people get together and talk about how they feel about the rest of society or act different ect.....

there is no such thing as controversial in music, it's something ignorant people made up because they are jealous
