The important thing is to be respectful to other people. From all the stories I have heard of Billie Holliday, she was very kind. So, a heroine addict has more respect than you. Understand?

I had no idea that white girls suffering from depression were among the biggest fans of Billie Holiday - and- I couln't even hazard a guess as to why.
Billie admittedly was a not only a junkie and later an alcoholic, but uknown to many, was a working prostitute when she first started her singing career. That kind of life, would cause almost anyone to "sing the blues."
I do, however, think she was over-rated........a one octave voice and her almost depressing tempos, while consistant with her persona, are not the things that makes a great vocalist. Her delivery was different as compared to other jazz/blues singers....and...her quick departure from this earth are be considered a large part of her "iconic" image.
