People who know electric basses - help!?!

Question: I am planning on buying a bass sometime after Christmas, but I'm not really sure what kind I should get. I'm a beginner, so I don't want to buy one that's really expensive. I'm a small girl (about 5 ft. tall) and I have really small hands. I have a guitar that I have a hard time playing because of the size of my hands. Will I need to buy a bass that's smaller because of this? I have been thinking about purchasing this bass

because of it's thinner neck, but it's about $500. Are there any other basses out there with similar thin fretboards that aren't as expensive? Or should I just spend the money on this smaller bass?

Most basses are kind of large and with small hands, I would wait and get a bass that fits you well. Shop around, you'd be suprised what you might find in a music store or pawn shop.
