A question for GUITARISTS about Guitar Hero?!

Question: The game guitar hero. I was just wondering about a question. Is it really true that if you're good at guitar hero you are a talented guitarist (real guitar). Was just wondering because some of my friends that I associate with in real life say that to me but have never played real guitar but they said its because it helps your fingers press the button fast on the fretboard (speaking in the plastic guitar for the game). But since I'm not good at guitar hero and play real guitar I have no idea how it feels a lot different.

But your thoughts and opinions about this question I'll give an open ear. Please list.

One has little to do with the other. I play guitar, and songs in the games I've never heard or played before would be MUCH easier for me to learn on guitar than in the games. Being a guitarist made it harder to learn to play Guitar Hero because although the controller may FEEL like a guitar, a guitar it ain't. I had to learn to NOT play Guitar Hero like I was playing my guitar. There is no "feel" to the game, you have to push the right buttons at the right time. It is nothing like playing a real guitar.

I don't think it really works like that. It may help you with your hand-eye co-ordination if you are a total beginner on the real guitar but otherwise there's not much of an advantage as far as i can see.

The buttons are not representative of the notes on a real instrument as they are obviously much bigger and easier to hit. Really the only use it could have other than co-ordination is to improve your speed of hand movement.

Personally i think the shape of the controller is pretty much where the similarity ends.

You have got to be kidding, right, that's like saying that just because I win the Super Bowl on Madden, That I could start for any team in the NFL. The only thing that Guitar Hero does is get some of the rock/hairband/pop/metal groups back out there and possibly "Kick-Start" some kid into wanting to play the real deal. Just because I comb my hair, that does not make me a Beautician. You ask for opinions, You may not agree with mine, but instead of getting my son the game, I would rather get him a Guitar, and watch him blow-away his plastic fretboarded friends. I don't think you'll ever see "The Monsters of Plastic Rock" concert coming soon to your local stadium

not nessesarily, actually most good guitar players cannot play guitar hero. the guitar works off a patter of various scales and guitar hero has no patterns like "a" is alays the blue button. (plus, it is said that guitar hero's rythems are off, so those with god ears will be at a distvantage...)

but hand eye corrdination is key in guitar, so who knows, its a case by case thing.

nope... they are actually complete opposites

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! this question never ceases to amaze me! are there really people who actually think that playing a game that uses a controller shaped like a guitar will make them play real guitar?! i'm very worried... soon we're gonna have people who play rock band then decide that they're all gonna start their own band! no guitar hero will not help you in anyway, except possibly for developing rhythm.

I even read in a magazine an interview with Slash, guitarist from Guns N' Roses who is featured in Guitar Hero III, that as much fun/addictive Guitar Hero can be, it's totally different than the real thing.

I play guitar and totally agree. 5 buttons for an entire song versus the entire fretboard and 6 strings? No comparison.
