What should I look for in buying a starter piano?!

You don't want to spend too much money on a starter piano unless you're absolutely sure that this an interest that she will continue to pursue as she gets older. So no Steinways or a B?sendorfers.

If you're living in the United States, you can probably find a used piano on Craigslist.com. You can expect to pay 400 to 500 USD for one that's in good condition.

Always inspect a piano before you buy it. Make sure it's fairly in tune, make sure no strings are broken, and check to see if the pedals are working - at least the right pedal - which when pressed down should allow the notes to sustain. Also check the keyboard. If the keys are too wide or hard to press down, your daughter may find it difficult to play.

Make sure it has both black AND white keys.

I bought one with only black keys and all I could play was the blues!
