"Better" is not the best adjective to use.
I do believe that certain genres are more "honest" and "comprehensive" than others in terms of their ability to express the human life experience.
Classical and jazz stand as the two best genres for conveying the human experience. In both genres, the depths of ugliness and sadness and the heights of joy beauty are powerfully conveyed.
Rock music, blues are honest (though less honest than the previous two), but not as "comprehensive." Their range is more limited.
Pop music and rap music are at the bottom.
Pop is often not honest and more about glamor and superficial "love songs." and rap (gangsta rap and hip-hop) is often too commercialized and focused on a very limited range of emotions.
Because music is part of the Arts, I consider it subjective, as I do all of the Arts. If you can agree that the Arts are subjective, there can be no "better," only preferred.
