you want a tube amp, that is a must.. if you want a really clean amp get a fender blues deluxe, not much distortion on this amp, unless you want to play something like blues or country or any thing clean or just slightly distorted, its great and loud enought to play out with.. only 40 watts but dont let that fool you or if you want a good clean amp with some descent distortion the fender hot rod is a amazing amp too.. fender tube amps are known for their full ritch clean tone but not so much for their distortion.. if you run a ibenez tube screamer pedal thru either of those amps it will sound quite good for distortion.. but see blow what i have to say bout distortion pedals..

now if you want a amp with a lot of distortion.. you want to get a really good marshal or peavey amp (valve king not recomended).. like i say tubes amps only.. and you want the amp to produce the distortion and steer away from distortion pedals, just about any pro musician will tell you pedals should only be used for effects not your full time sound.. like delay or reverb, or stuff like that.... distortion pedals are no way near as good as the sound of a tube amp that has its own drive channel and not all amps will have a good drive channel.. and if you can afford it you wnat to get a half stack or quarter stack for playing rock and roll.. that is a tube amp head and a 4x12 or 2x12 speaker cab.. but tube, tube, tube, tube, no matter what... solid state amps are cheaper but you are throwing your money in the trash can if you are a serious or want to be come a serious guitar player. or play out in a band at some point in time..

as far as guitars for rock and roll.. gibson lespaul or epiphone les paul, if you cant afford the gibson the gibson sg is a nother good one and some people like the gibsons with the single coil pickus instead of the humbucker pickup, you get a total different sound.. for heavily distorted rock and roll. or if you want a good clean guitar, surf, country, jazz, blues ect get a fender strat or tellycaster american is much prefered over the mexican but the mexicans sound comparable just got have as good of wireing, hardware or wood the body is made out of.. same deal with the gibson and epiphone.. same company but the epiphones is the wattered down model..

gretsch guitars are great also for playing distorted and clean..

go to a big guitar store like guitar center and try some of these things i have listed.. and if you cant afford them now.. save up, dont buy something your not gonna be happy with a year down the road.. and sell that to get better stuff and loose money on the deal.. and dont listen much the the guys at guitarcenter usually the just hire idiots off the street that have no idea what they are talking bout AT ALL..

FENDER is the best !

go to a guitar center, there they will help you and you can try them out too...that way you can get a feel for what you like, and see how much they are..

fender stratocaster is the one i have... i have a pignose amp but dont get that cuz it uses up like a pack of batteries every 10 minutes

dimebag darrel guitars are cool

Amp
I would just get a Cube from roland. small and portable but very mean

fender strat awsome starters guitar and amps a simple 10 watt will do fender

Epiphone lucel dont make it anymore though my dad has one and a fender amp

You should go to a music store and play a few to see which one feels good for you.As far as an amp,you don't need a lot of wattage to practice. I have a Roland Micro Cube and a Behringer GMX210. The Roland is small and portable, works on AC or DC current(6 AA batteries),and has built in effects.Good sounding amp and won't break you.I spent $150 for mine. Try looking on Music123.com,Musician'sFriend,or Guitar Center.com

Hope that helps.

If moneys not a prob Id DEF go for a paul reed smith.I think thats how u spell it or a PRS.Best wiring best sound good pickup.SOUNDS AWSOME.But prolly not for a begginer,And then that with a Vox combo,or a head and a cabinet.Or that amp and a Gibson.Or that amp and a fender. Not a cheap one tho, cheap fenders sound like crap. But vox amps are awsome. Now those are the best.lol.
