All I know is that when I was younger, I was listening to a tape of Slayer (yeah, a tape, not 8-Track though) and I was feeling a bit guilty. I offered a short prayer asking for a sign if I shouldn't be listening to it, and almost immediately, the tape failed and stopped. Now, it could very well be coincidence, the tape was well worn, my buddy and I had listened to it quite a bit, but the timing was uncanny. As for Slipknot, I don't know.. not familiar with their work.
Even if they were against religion as you term it, exactly how does that automatically make them satanic? Faulty logic and the answer is no. Until the time Corey Taylor decides to hold a press conference and declare his love for Satan, don't make assumptions.
Is the Pope Catholic,ever read their lyrics,songs like "God Hates Us All","New Faith","Hell Awaits","Disciple" Slayer doesnt leave much to the imagination,Slipknot is pretty much the same,I know they at least dont beleive in god and are'nt shy about voicing their opinion

These are examples of bands who mostly go for the shock tactic (espacially Slipknot...). Except for their first albums, Slayer is a band that questionned society and preconceived perceptions. And when they make an album like "Christ Illusion", they are not satanist: they just can't stand blind faith (and they are soooooo right). Slayer is a very talented and intelligent band (and Reign in blood is simply one of the greatest heavy metal album of all times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
For Slipknot.... well, they are too mainstream for me...!!!!!!!

As for Slayer, I guess they're just anti-religious with all the hypocrisy and bullsh*t going around that, and how people are misguided by their own religious beliefs.
I cannot speak for Silpknot. As for Slayer, they are not praticing Satanists. Just because you write songs that have to do with Satan dosen't mean that you worship Satan.
