Answers: sound labs and recording studios can make my old cat "impy" sound good. agree or not agree.

Dolly is best. I loved it when Dolly did it. I liked when Whitney did it. Dolly's is a classic Whitney's will never be!

More than not, the original version of a song is better than the remakes

Dolly sings it - Whitney shouts it. Original is always best

Since Dolly Parton wrote the song, and sung it as it was originally written, a cover version is just that, a version. The really sad part is that Whitney Houston was so full of s*** at that time that she either didn't know or didn't care whose music she covered, and refused to acknowledge the songwriter. It sure wasn't any credit to her.

I agree with you 100%. I'm old enough to remember Dolly's version when it came out. My mother had it and we played it a thousand times.

When Whitney's cover appeared, my first thought was, "She's butchered it!" Dolly's original has much more heart and soul. She wrote it, and the words and melody ring so true when she sings it.

Hell, yeah!

OH YEAH!!!

Agree with you all! and so did my brother who NEVER voices his opinion on ANYTHING years ago, he sadly said,

Whitney, in front of MILLIONS of people had the nerve to say
"DOLLY PARTON had NO CLUE how to SING THIS song and that actually made me go in the bathroom and vomit :"

WOW!!! my mouth flew open in shock! i had never heard my brother critisize ANYONE!!!!

DOLLY ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

neither whitney nor dolly are my style and don't think i've ever heard the song in question; but, i agree about digital recording techniques. every single note is voiced and chorused and effected to the point of being defected. in my op, nashville is the worlds worst at over producing music. talk about cookie-cutter trash. man-o-man.....

i'm not so bad that i still listen to vynil on the victorla, but i do prefer music that i can at least recognize the individual instruments and isnt just homogonized perfection...if that makes any sence....

Yes Dolly Parton had the original and better version to this song.

Absolutely! The original is always better. Dolly's version has so much more depth and emotion to it.

Whitney's version kills me. Butchered and murdered aren't strong enough words for what she did to that song.

Yes, Yes, and HELL YES, Dolly puts whitney to shame =)

Most of us will say Yes!!!. The other covers are only ok as far as the talent goes.
For me, Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

99% of the time I prefer the original to remakes but Whitneys was better in this case I thought.

Dolly Parton's original,by far, when Dolly did the song it was for a reason far greater than$$$,A D=====cat couldn't have done what she did no matter what they done to the cat,and not for the reason.

Yeah Dolly's sounded better, but I thought that when Whitney's horrible version was put out.
