John Michael Montgomery "The Little Girl"

Her parents never took the young girl to church
Never spoke of His name
Never read her His word
Two non-believers walking lost in this world
Took their baby with them
What a sad little girl

Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs
Never wanted to play
Or give kisses and hugs
She'd watch the TV and sit there on the couch
While her mom fell asleep
And her daddy went out

And the drinking and the fighting
just got worse every night
Behind their couch she'd be hiding
Oh what a sad little life
And like it always does, the bad just got worse
With every slap and every curse
Until her daddy in a drunk rage one night
Used a gun on her mom and then took his life

And some people from the city took the girl far away
To a new mom and a new dad
kisses and hugs everyday
Her first day of Sunday school the teacher walked in
And a small little girl
Stared at a picture of Him

She said I know that man up there on that cross
I don't know His name
But I know He got off
Cause He was there in my old house
and held me close to His side
As I hid there behind our couch
The night that my parents died

"Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley and Allison Kraus is the 2nd saddest.

Lonestar - I'm already there
*Brought a tear to my eye the first time i heard it.

Alyssa Lies
by John Michael Carroll

Concrete Angel sung by Martina McBride

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

Repeat Chorus

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

If Something Should Happen
Darrel Worley

*sometimes I can make it all the way to the line about taking the son camping without tearing up, but I don't think I have ever gotten past "he's always known your my best friend" lol

Buddy you and I go way back
Camp Legune, all through highschool and before that.
So I don't mind tellin you I'm scared to death.
The doctor is goin in on the 25th
It's the same thing my daddy had
Thank God they caught it fast.

But if something should happen
Stop in some time and say hello to Catherine
You and Marianne could always keep her laughing
Because shes gonna need a lot of that
Take her out to a movie
It's gonna take sometime before shes back on her feet.
I know you think I'll be fine and I'm talkin crazy
But theres always that chance
That's why I'm askin
If something should happen

Little Nathan is growing up so fast
This November he'll turn 10
He wants to play quarterback.
I'm supposed to coach his team this fall
But I may not get to afterall
He's gonna need someone to catch a pass
And to throw it back

If something should happen
Oh promise me you'll take that boy out campin
Throw a line out in the water every now and then
Answer any questions that he has
Maybe once he gets older
You can sit and have that first cold beer together
And tell him a couple stories on his father
He's always known your my best friend.
That's why I'm askin
If something should happen

I hope I live until I'm 80
And I get to see my son get married
And have babies
And make a million more memories with my wife.
Yeah buddy I pray alright
But if it's my time to leave
Could you watch over them for me?

Not quite a sad song, but I cried the first time I heard "Austin" by Blake Shelton.

The song "Little Red Balloon" by Christina something (?) is really sad.

Also, "What If She's An Angel" by Tommy Shane Steiner. P.S. Does anyone know what happened to him?

It is an Alan Jackson song from the mid 90s. It tells the tale of how a boy and a girl fall in love, grow up, and get married. Then, she dies having his baby. Tears welled up in my eyes the first time I heard it.

Has to be "Whiskey Lullaby"
by Brad Paisley (feat. Alison Krauss)....even the video is crazy sad!!! Left the YouTube link so you could see it!

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night

[1st Chorus]
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby

(Sing lullaby)

The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night

[2nd Chorus]
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

"Lightening" by Eric Church, especially now that he has a video to fit the song. Also "The Dance" by Garth Brooks. "When I get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton.
