What was Carole King's first hit?!

Question: I'm doing a damn report on her too.

Answers: I'm doing a damn report on her too.

she wrote many #1 hits for other artist but as a solo artist I believe it was It's Too Late in 1971 off the Tapestry album.

"It's Too Late" / "I Feel the Earth Move," 1971, US #1 (AC #1), Gold / UK #6

Don't just limit your report to her first hit - Carole has written so many songs for so many pop artists. Many of them were co-written by ex-husband Gerry Goffin. They were part of the 'Brill Building' songwriters of the early to late 60s that pretty much controlled pop music in that decade.

Also, 'Tapestry' was a huge album that sold unprecedented numbers in its time and contained 5 hit songs and won 4 Grammys in 1971. Go to All Music.com and read up.

I would have thought it was her 1962 top ten hit (UK)
"It might As Well Rain Until September."

Written intentionally for Bobby Vee,was the maiden release for 'Dimension' label.
She cut fully realised demos of all her and husband Gerry Goffins material which now bring four figure sums when they occasionally pop up on open market

It Might As Well Rain Until September charted in the US as well reaching #22 in September of 1962. Carole had been in the music biz for a while before that. Neil Sedaka's top ten hit from 1959, Oh Carol was about his then girlfriend Carole King.
