she wrote many #1 hits for other artist but as a solo artist I believe it was It's Too Late in 1971 off the Tapestry album.

Don't just limit your report to her first hit - Carole has written so many songs for so many pop artists. Many of them were co-written by ex-husband Gerry Goffin. They were part of the 'Brill Building' songwriters of the early to late 60s that pretty much controlled pop music in that decade.
