Classic Country Music Fans--This question is about Ernest Tubb?!
Question: As I have mentioned in a previous post I have been reading an Ernest Tubb biography "Ernest Tubb--The Texas Troubadour" written by Ronnie Pugh. It is a great book with a lot of information about this great legend. My question is aside from the classics and his many great songs what do you think made for his longivity in the business? He was in the country music business for nearly 50 years.

besides his great songs, he was a STEARN business man too...ERNEST TUBB RECORDS-SHOPS! he was instrumental in getting LORETTA LYNN to become a HOUSE WHOLE name and she never forgot it and sings his praises today!he was A HARD drinking man no doubt, but was well respected by all his peers., he was'nt bad as a SDONG WRITER EITHER, a lot people don't know that he wrote such a MASTER PIECE..LONESOME 77203 for HAWKSHAW HAWKKINS..I COULD GO ON AND ON!!!
He really had a presence about him. His voice was good. His songs were hits, and he even sported a rhinestone or two. I remember hearing Ernest Tubb as a very small child. I guess he just grew on me, but hearing his songs brings me comfort.
Ernest Tubb was a good man that never had anything bad to say about anybody, He love his job, and he loved people, and he always bragged on every body's singing and their songs when he introduced them to the stage. Keith Whitley was a lot like that, I have seen somebody ask Keith Whitley what he though about a singing group or singer and he would always say " Those guys look like they were having a lot of fun up there on stage, I'd love to get together with them some time and jam!" He always said something nice about everyone, never anything bad!
Ernest Tubb had a very unique voice, wore lots of flashy "Bling", was an established businessman and probably didn't realize it, but was a pretty good talent scout. He took no sh*t off of anybody, and actually put Jack Greene off his bus in the middle of nowhere, because he broke the rules. Jack Greene credited his career to Ernest Tubb because he made him stand on his own two feet and become a star in his own right after that incident.
Nicknamed the Texas Troubadour! Singer, songwriter, like, "Fortunes in Memories" and "Mr. & Mrs. Used to Be"!!
I agree with most of the above answers, his was a unique voice, authorative yet often tender. A shrewd business man & always helping other performers get a start.

he was a genius in simple but effective lyrics, along the same vein as cash but, theres something unexplainable about the beauty of all the earliest folk/ country, tubb, hank the first, Danny reeve, even Bobby bare, I wish I'd been alive to see them all perform! Tubb's son Lucky lives in Austin Tx and plays often, he's got the same spark, same w/ bobby bare Jr.
From what I've read about him over the years, he was kind to up and coming artists, helping them out when they needed it. He also had the record shop back when some records were hard to find...he stocked them and mailed them around the world. He was a respected man and his fellow country music performers and music business folks most always had good things to say about him.
