Why Are Brass Instruments so Intricate and Swirly?!
Question: I was researching for a project in school and was looking up pictures of brass instruments. Upon looking at a picture of a french horn, my classmate asked me why the French Horn was so swirly. I began to wonder this myself, and decided it would be a great fact to include in my project. Answers are greatly appreciated, and if possible please include a source.

The "swirls" in the instruments serve to amplify the sound and lower the tone. That's why smaller instruments like trumpets have a high sound, while bigger instruments like tubas have much lower sounds. More swirls = lower sound.
