Not at all. Believe it or not, guitar (acoustic and/or electric) is in the mix of just about every song there is out there besides fully electronic music. (And then guys like guitar god Joe Satriani decided there needed to be an electronica record with guitar in it, so he put out "Engines of Creation." Go figure.) What music do you like most? Rap? R&B? Jazz? Country? You know how many awesome guitarists there are in the bands and studios performing and recording for those anything-but-rock styles? Not only is it sometimes challenging, but the tone by itself playing that particular phrase is just pure inspiration! You could be one of them. (I sure wish I was, right now.)
Okay, so I answered. Now you have to ask yourself what your favorite guitar sounds you've been hearing are. "I really like the guitar tone in "(enter title here)" during this section. What kind of guitar is it? And through what amplifier? And how do they get that cool special effect sound?" Finding all that out could lead you to picking out your first guitar, amp, and stompbox--whatever applies. Like if someone liked Jimi Hendrix' sound, I'd tell them they'd be looking into a Fender Stratocaster with three single coils, a Marshall amp, and pedals like the Fuzzface and Crybaby. So you get your gear, get the music or tablature for the song if you can't play it by ear, and learn it. That pretty much describes my thirteen years of playing!
I know this is lengthy, but I hope it helped.

there's many different types of guitars other than the "rock" kind. you could try classical which is that spanish kinda sounding kinda deal. or steel guitar, which is that boooooooooow00000 kinda noise you hear in country music. or blues guitar. i cant really explain that one though.

it wouldn't be wierd though because as i said theres all kinds of guitar. and it could lead into other instruments like mandolin or lute or anything else with strings.

Electric Guitar is played in heaps of different styles of music, mainly rock. But once you learn guitar you can start to make the kind of music and sounds you want to listen too. When i first learnt guitar, there were not many songs i wanted to learn, but i knew what sound i liked so i just wrote my own music for me.

the electric guitar can be used for all sorts of genres!

blues
rock
jazz
country
hip hop
classical

The guitar is an excellent tool to use to express yourself and feelings you've experienced. An electric guitar allows you to amplify your sound and even alter it's tone and apply other effects. I play All types of music on any type of instrument that is available. Weird would be if you were to deny yourself the freedom to express yourself or imitate/emulate the things you enjoy and appreciate in your own way. It's OK to play hard rock on a classical guitar or classical on a Gretch wired through a Marshall, The most important thing is that you feel free to express yourself in what ever way is comfortable for you.
Do you want a good example? Listen to Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies or The Ramones - Somewhere over the Rainbow. I could think of many other examples, but this is a good example of how to set yourself free and, dare I say, think outside of the box. As far as not liking "rock" goes, don't get hung up in trying to categorize or stereotype music. You know what you like so just play it on the instrument of your choice in the style that YOU enjoy. If it makes you feel good then you have it right. Anyone who doesn't get it......well I guess they're just dense.

There cant be NO rock that you dont like. OK suppose you dont like any rock at all. Maybe you like rap, then go learn that Party Like A Rockstar song and that Nelly song. Maybe you like country, Johnny Cash does awesome cover or Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden songs.

First listen for some rock in whatever genre you like and then try to find some rock that sounds like what you hear and then naturally youll expand onto other forms of rock. That should get you started

my advice would be to play what you like.. it's your music.. some of the best guitarists in the world.. shoot.. most of the best guitarists in the world arent playing rock. They play jazz or classical or blues or something other than that.. so play what you like.. I myself like the rock so I bought a book of songs by my favorite band.. picked up the guitar and learned to play using chord charts.. I'd say if you want to be good.. take lessons but it's all up to you.. music is an extremely personal thing.. so do what you want with it.. I highly suggest picking it up though.. and just play.. get a book like I did or take some lessons but play.. because it rules..
