I think it all depends on the content of the song. Like, Soulja Boy would most likely be hip-hop, while someone like Project Pat is rap.

You're too white? Why was that so relevant to your question?

Lol, it was just a question. I wasn't riled. I was just asking.

Rap - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rap
Rapping is the rhythmic spoken delivery of rhymes and wordplay, one of the central elements of hip hop music and culture.

Hip Hop - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_Hop
Hip hop (also spelled hip-hop or hiphop) is both a cultural movement and a music genre developed in New York City starting in the 1970s

Rap is the music, Hip Hop is the culture that encompasses rap music and a whole array of other things like a way of dressing, talking, dancing etc...rapping which was also called joaning has been going on on the street corners and play grounds in the black communities all over America forever it was simply brothas dissin each other and bragging on themselves with words made to rhyme. In the 70's during the disco era the New York brothas set their raps to disco music and battled each other in underground gathering for bragging rights and money. That's how rap music was born and the hip hop culture grew out of that music movement....

I think hip hop is a music genre and a cultural movement that encompasses musical stylings like rap, modern r&b, and the like. So essentially rap IS hip hop. I don't like the hip hop clothing styles so much, but the dancing and the music is so incredible. I love it. I don't really identify with the newer rap though. It's less poetic. Just my take on it. Love anything produced by Timbaland right now, really unique.

Rap is what you do. Hip-hop is what you live.

Alright here's the short and sweet version to it.

Hip hop is all about the beats. (Some lyrical highlights).

Rap on the other hand, has good beats, but the majority of it is all about the lyrical part of the track.

Hope that helps

Hip hop is a culture with 5 elements. Rap is one of them, and while you don't have to rap to make a hip-hop track, you must rap to make a rap record.
