I didn't see the performance tonight, but I heard on a Nashville Behind the Scenes thing a couple of weeks ago that her boyfriend the hockey player cheated on her and she was very vengeful and emotional at a concert announcing it from the stage and crying during one of her songs.
Could be she is still dealing with personal problems I suppose and all the stress of that and the award show was just too much for her. When I saw an interview with her a few months ago, she struck me as very down to earth and sincere and not able to hide her feelings very well. The whole thing of the autobiographical song--I think it's just very close to her, especially if now she is feeling betrayed/abandoned again.
Here I am like an armchair psychologist analyzing her from one interview and another gossip story--what do I know?
I guess I'm just trying to put myself in her shoes and circumstances and think how I would feel. I'm not sure the $$ and fame is worth having to live in a fishbowl like that.

Being on stage in front of all your peers has got to be hell, I think she was just shocked.

I think that she was nervous and excited to be at the CMA Awards. Take that and add the emotion from the song, who wouldn't cry?
she didnt appear that way to me.. I'm sure that song was very hard (emotionally) for her to sing... wouldnt it be for you?
she was left with her grandmother when she was a little girl... she didnt really know her mom
if you will read her bio at cmt.com you will see that the song she sang is a story of her...Her mother left when she was 2 years old left her with a father who was a druggie and drank and spent much of his time in prison ...she was raised by her grandparents...So since she is singing about her life I imagine it is pretty emotional
