Not really, and it definitely shouldn't offend you. It all depends on the context it's used in. In rap when people say it, they generally refer to a black person(not in a derogitory way) or sometimes any person in general. It's only offensive if used in a bad context.
Its a complete double standard. They get so offended when white people call them it, but its a term of endearment for them to use. They could use words like cracker and honky and nobody bats an eye. Nobody should use the word. Period
they dont want to make it seem ok for people to say it..some people are just proving they are bigger than the word and can use it..but 90% of the time they dont use "that" word, most use the slang of it..meaning somethin else not the racist way.

I can't speak for black people but i would guess that they do it because they like to...and not all like to but for some it fits into their language and swagger.
My version of this would be when I call my friends skanks, ho's, etc. They know I mean it in an endearing way. Maybe its the way I say it or because they know I love them. But its our thing that when heard by an outsider could be taken as offensive.

I have several close friends that are people of color-black. Not African American, they are not from Africa nor are they all from America. Some are American, some are from the Caribbean.
