Happy Birthday Johnnie! I have the "Battle of New Orleans" as my ring tone, I'll think of him everytime my phone rings today. My favorite song by him is "Johnnie Reb" but I also really like "Whispering Pines" alot. Great singer, great story teller!

Sorry to tell you but today is the anniversary of his death. Johnny was killed on a stretch of highway near the small Texas town of Milano on Novenber 5,1960. I have been down that stretch of road several times and seen where some of the old timers said was the actual site about 10 miles from town. I think Johnny was born in another month.
