Rap music, why???!

Question: Why do people like rap music? Is there anyone out there besides me that dislikes it? I mean, most of it displays women as objects. Not to mention all the hatred and violence.

I would like to see something inspiring and encouraging, I'd hate to just categorize all rap music as such. So if you could prove me wrong about rap music it would be much appreciated.

Personally I like all kinds of music but rap and country. Unless it's old school rap which I happen to find hilarious, or very old country like Hank Williams. But mostly I like rock, classical, impressionistic, electronic, and ambient.

"Keep Ya Head Up" by Tupac
"Drivin' Me Wild" by Common ft. Lily Allen
"I Can" by Nas

I kinda agree with what you say. I enjoyed the earlier era of rap much more than a lot of what's produced now. I don't think it's fair to generalize, though. I can remember countless rock videos in the 80's & 90's and height of MTV that displayed women as objects as well. I think the problem is that we just have to dig a little deeper when seeking out some of the styles that might be more fitting in today's rap. Rappers like Common and Kanye West do still produce music that is positive. Unfortunately, based on airplay and video results, it seems for us that a lot of the watered-down, image driven acts are what is in for now.

Sorry!

Rap music is only really made for people who understand it or live it. Most of these rappers are former drug dealers. They become gangster rappers. They know crime, violence, business, sex, and the code of the streets. People (mainly black) know what these rappers are talking about, other people (lets call them "suburban") don't. So if you don't understand what these rappers are talking about....don't worry....you're not supposed to. And if you don't like it...don't listen to it. **Quick Black History Fact** - Slang or "Ebonics" was invented by black slaves. It's how they told each other where the Undergound Railroad (secret paths that would lead them to freedom) was without the slave masters ( slave masters meaning....white people) knowing. So again...don't be mad if you don't understand it...honestly you're not supposed to...and none of these rappers care if you do. Rappers make music for people live and look like them. But if they put there albums in the FYE store and some "suburban" white teenager decides to spend that $15...I mean......you think that rappers is going to say "STOP!!"? Hell no!! He/She's gonna take that money. As far as the objectivity of women...well....put it like this....a young black man, from the ghetto, puts out a song, gets rich, and gets stampeded....by a stampede of GROUPIES. No man can resist. The only reasons why those female groupies are there is because that man has become an object himself...because he has money and is famous...and pretty soon relationships with groupies become his life. Honestly, every man just wants bang out as many chicks as possible anyway.....these rappers are just alwasy upfront about it. But there are rappers who are not as street or as violent. Try listening to Ludacris, Common, Talib Kweli, or Kanye West. They write uplifting, educating, happy feeling songs but still have a real street edge. Alot of them have music inspired by rock, electronica, and classical.

rap is consistent with the decline in the average intelligence level and scholastic achievement. It blames all problems on outsiders. That is a seductive message.
