How can I retrieve my lost opera singing voice?!

Question: I am an opera singer. I am a dramatic mezzo-soprano. On October 8th, 2007, I lost my voice out of nowhere. I've asked my choir teacher about what to do, and she said that I should drink tea and rest my voice. It is November 3rd, 2007, and my voice is still gone. What is going on? The only time when I lost my voice before for this length of time was as a result of my ex-boyfriend hurting me emotionally (which was around this time). My ex-boyfriend is no longer in high school because he graduated. My choir teacher has also said that I could lose it to stress. Pre-Calculus has been causing me grief lately. My life revolves around that class. I have no life outside of it. How can I retrieve my lost opera singing voice? I'm tired of it being gone.

hon, it sounds like the stress factor in your life is affecting your singing voice. this is not unnatural, it happens to all of us at sometime or another. However, you want to make an appointment with an Ear Nose and Throat doctor (ENT for short) who has experience with singers to make absolutely sure that there is no physical cause for your condition at this time.
That having been checked off the list, you want to go to a qualified voice teacher for some technical help. Your choir director may be a great person. but probably is not a fully-trained singer, and isn't up to speed on the requirements of a big voice. Ask all around: your community choruses, your church choirs, the local colleges ( only if they have a good music department) music stores where lessons are offered, even the Yellow pages. ask friends who sing for recommendations. Every singer needs a mentor or teacher. None of us should be so foolish to think we can do it all on our own, nor should we have to. Your teacher will help your technical weaknesses become strengths, and furthr your strenghts to outstanding heights.
At the moment, keep resting your voice, (don't try and force any issues), get through the Pre-Calc, and make your doctor's appointment.
Best wishes and a speedy recovery

You need to see a voice coach.
