Stevie Ray Vaughn. He learned to play without any formal teaching, and could play Hendrix stuff by ear. Listen to Stevie's version of "Little Wing". No disrespect to Jimi though, love 'em both.

I feel Jimi is given a lot of sway just because he died. Our society seems to enshrine deceased rock heroes as the best at (whatever they did). Not to say he couldn't play a mean guitar, but he's not THE BEST.....

Both exllent guitarists and both compleatly different Styles.
You can't compare all these guitar heros and greats like Slash,Clapton,Beck and So on..... They are are special in their own way so I'd say no one is better.But I will say this they both learned by ear and Vaughan was heavily influnced by Jimi.

well thats a good question i always thought it was jimi because he is very good... however,,,, stevie ray vaughan was very influenced by jimi,,,learned a lot from his playing... and the student is always better than the teacher . so as far as those two go i say SRV

I can't even give you a straight answer.. of dead, blues/rock guitarists, these are probably the top two and I'd call it a tie.

Much of SRV's playing was influenced by Hendrix. personally, I prefer SRV's Voodoo Chile to Hendrix's.

These men were both blessed with the highest degree of talent and ability.. to ask to pick one over the other is unrealistic. To say that one is BETTER than the other is shallow.

Suffice it to say, they were both taken too soon.

I like Jimi's music better but SRV is a better guitarist. I don't know how good SRV would be without his main influence(Hendrix) driving him to be better though. (I mean if Hendrix didn't exist for that last sentence)
