Does anybody else feel that Bon Jovi are somewhat stuck in certain musical patte!

Question: ever since 'It's My Life' they seem to have lost their skills in inventing new songs , and now they all sound pretty much alike.. they seem like having two patterns: a pop-rock, slightly energetic one - It's My Life, Have a Nice Day, Who Says You Can't Go Home... and the ballads - All About Loving You, Thank You for Loving Me .. did they lose any of their inspiration? what do you think?

To quote Todd Barry:

"I watched the Bon Jovi episode of Behind the Music. They kept using this phrase, 'And then he went back to his roots.' And the next year he went 'back to his roots.' I watched the whole show; I didn't see one portion where he 'strayed' from his roots. It's not like they said 'And in 1987, Jon Bon Jovi entered a New Jersey recording studio with just four sets of bagpipes and a wood block.'"

They've actually been working those two formats for the past 20-odd years, as far as I can tell...

Yes, I agree. I have always been a huge fan, but I thought exactly the same. After their successful period (the eighties?) they went a bit quiet and then made a succession of very dull and similar sounding songs. Have a nice day was not tooo bad. Nothing earth shattering though. Perhaps Jon just got lazy or too caught up in the family (or has enough money, lol). He's still extremely gorgeous though!

They won't change until there's a dip in sales. A lot of people like "elevator music rock" these days.

jon bon - what a gay name might as well call himself co ck knock

They've been a second rate Bruce Springsteen band for about 24 years now. Totally unoriginal and relying purely on image and poppy tunes. I hate that band nowadays, when I was 18 I saw them at Wembley Arena and it put me off for life. I've never seen anything so egotistical as Jon Bon Jovi.

My opinion is that most artists naturally write in recognizable melodic patterns that people identify with. Your analysis of Bon Jovi can be said about most artists that have any longevity. The main songwriters in any particular band creates their signature sound. Take the Smiths. Most of their songs have a certain melodic pattern that people automatically identify as the "Morrissey sound." The same can be said about countless other bands like Oasis, Cranberries, the Cure, Pearl Jam, etc. My point is that it's not necessarily a loss of inspiration, it's just simply that the songwriters usually gravitate in their own original melodic realms that can be heard throughout many of their songs.

I agree i fell after "It's My Life" there taking a softer approach to there songs. I also feel that they are moving into more of the country music genre. For instance there last two albums have more of a country music influence than there other albums.

I like Old Bon Jovi. New Bon Jovi music is the same old crap again and again
