You bet ya!...now we are talking my era of music devotion. I had his Blue Sky Night THunder Album, Absolutely loved his voice. Funny thing is that when I listened to him, I never even thought about it being country music, in fact I had him sorted with Bread and Cream ( lol).
I'm part Cherokee, so I especially love "Cherokee Fiddle"! The words to "Wild Fire" are so haunting (by the dark of the moon we planted, but there came an early frost..). I saw him in NM a couple of times about six years ago, and he sang those beautiful songs! I understand he lives in Iowa or someplace now.
Michael is a Dallas boy, having graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. I had the pleasure of introducing him onstage at the Rubaiyat Club on the North side of downtown.
Most people don;'t know that his first hit album was called "The Ballad of Calico"... performed by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Michael went to L.A. and showed Kenny how to put the gravely sound in his voice so it sounded as Michael wanted it to be. It is quite the collectors piece. The best song, IMHO, is "Dorsey, the Mail Carrying Dog"... oh, and "Harbor for My Soul".
Last I heard, he was still living on his ranch in New Mexico... but I could be wrong... it's been a while.
