Punk music, more of the same.?!

Question: Am I the only person who thinks bands such as: 30seconds to mars, greenday, all american rejects, MCR, AFI, Blink 182, System of a down and every other "PUNK" band out there sounds 90% the same? I mean give me a break, you buy a CD, pop it in and the first track is usually okay...cool sound...only to find out the next 10 tracks use the SAME beat for the most part! That same scratchy (I can't turn it up too loud because it sounds like nails on a chalk board) tune? There are a few bands such as breaking benjamin and seether (other than sound like Nirvana) and a few others that actually have a unique sound. For the most part though, you buy an AFI or Collective Soul cd and it's the exact same sound!!! Do all these guys sample each others music or what is the deal?? Can't someone come up with an ORIGINAL sound?

WELL,
They're not even real punk bands, a lot of REAL punk is, as cliche as it sounds, dead. A lot of the "punk" sound has been incorporated into other genres; such as Crust-Punk (know Grindcore), "Emo", Hardcore etc. Bands such as His Hero is Gone and xBISHOPx have a punk influence; so perhaps it is that you aren't choosing your bands wisely?

Greenday were once good; but their modern stuff is just, yes I agree, annoying and the same thing over and over. And Blink 182 is infamous for keeping the same EXACT chords, beats etc. in pretty much every song, while I wouldn't even consider 30 Seconds to Mars music.

all the bands you named aren't punk
and why would you stop doing the samething as everyone if thats what ppl like and thats how they make money. its called selling out

You only mentioned two punk bands in that whole tirade (AFI and Sex Pistols), and I bet you didn't even pick up one of their albums. By the way, modern AFI singles your friends have don't count, and Sex Pistols set the standard for marketable punk (meaning there are lots of copycats).
Listen to Gogol Bordello, Minor Threat, Swingin Utters, Flogging Molly, The Clash, Rancid, then Operation Ivy.
If you can do that, then come back here and repeat what you said with a straight face, then I'll know you were biased from the get go.

Only a few of those are Punk extra light (90% watered down so they can be radio friendly)

before you start a tirade, please get your music genres and definitions straight.

Punk = Black Flag, The Ramones, Bad Brains, The Stooges, Minor Threat, X........etc

Well how about you listen to actual punk music, rather than pop rock.

Although I really like some punk/aternative rock. I know what you mean. I don't know why they do that. But I kind of like that their music sounds the same because this way, if there's one song I like, I know there will be a hundred songs my other bands that I will like too. And, it doesn't really bother me to listen to a bunch of songs that sound the same. But, being unique is better.

A lot of people come up with original sounds... it is the record industry that, when they smell a hit, pump 20 other bands into the lineup who sound the same.

The record industry is all about making money, so if Nirvana makes it big, you'll automatically get bands like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, The Toadies, etc.

Remember the Latin influence of the late 90's - Ricky Martin and "La Vida Loca"? from that, we got Mambo #5, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, etc.

It's not just punk... it's music in general.

i might not be answerin your question
but to tell you the truth
30 seconds to mars, MCR, System of a down are NOT
punk

I hate pop punk too but i have to disagree with you about SOAD as they are one of the most original and talented bands out there and Seether is just a less talented Nirvana rip off.

Those aren't punk. Punk can never be recreated from what it used to be. That stuff is pure pop rock. Terrible in my opinion. Punk is the Ramones, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Anthrax, Storm Troopers of Death, Misfits, and what not. No one can replicate what punk left on culture, because it left a permanent imprint on society, something music today can and will never do.

um...sorry those aren't punk bands...but i listen to allot of the bands that you listed and i don't think they sound the same really... do you even listen to them?.... if you don't then you don't know what you're talking about

those arent exactly punk.. they're more alternative
umm if ur into irregular rhythms and stuff listen to Mars Volta, Blink 182 or stuff like that.. actual punk stuff sounds really good
