KISS and/or Megadeth fans : a question...?!

Question: A few days ago, I purchased and downloaded Megadeth's cover of KISS' "Strange Ways" from Amazon. I was wondering if anyone knew if this track was originally intended for the 'KISS My ***' tribute CD released in 1994.

I know for a fact that Megadeth was slated to appear on that album, but because of legal entanglements between Megadeth's and KISS' record labels, they were unable to contribute their track, which I had always heard was "Detroit Rock City". Now that they've released this track on their 'War Chest' box set, it's made me wonder if that was just a rumor.

I know there aren't a ton of regulars here in R&P who are KISS fans, but I thought Jmikep, or a knowledgeable non-fan might know.

I believe that the "Strange Ways" cover was recorded during the System Has Failed sessions and was always intended to be a bonus track for that album.
I think you're right in that Megadeth was slated to contribute a cover of "Detroit Rock City" to the Kiss My A** tribute, but to the best of my knowledge, the track was never recorded. I would assume that if it had ever been commited to tape, it would have surfaced somewhere in the bootleg trading community.

For as much as I remember about Kiss & Megadeth.....I really don't know the answer to this Deke.

It really irks me that because of legal-schmegal, a track never made it onto an album.

How dumb is that?

Who suffers in the end when that happens? The fans

I've gotta hear that- one of my fave KISS tracks, and Megadeth is one of my favorite bands. Hey, seen the classic KISS stuff on youtube, playing in small clubs? Amazing!
