With all this talk of the late, great Porter Waggoner, does anyone know what happ!

Question: Were they local to Oklahoma? I haven't heard anything about them in years, not even on nostalgia sites or TV tributes. I'm proud of all the Okie country music stars, Reba, Vince, Toby & others 'then & now", but I think Garth Brooks is largely the cause of the recent drop in country music quality. He was just a punk bouncer in a bar in Stillwater & made too much money with too little talent. Low places alright, under a rock!

Yes they are now both deceased Doyle passed away in 1982 from Cancer and Teddy passed away in 2003. They were responsible for the world getting to see a young Loretta Lynn on their weekly show. It is a shame that MCA hasn't done a Wilburn Brothers compilation CD set. They certainly had a very interesting show. RIP Doyle & Teddy.

Sorry I've never heard of the Wilburn Brothers, I have heard of Porter since I was a child..........

Well, first off, Doyal Wilburn died 16 Oct 1982, His brother, Teddy died 24 Nov 2003 After their shows ended production in 1974, they started the Wil-helm Talent Agency and Surefire music publishing. They were instrumental in launching the careers of many country legends including Loretta Lynn, There is a good biography of them at: http://music.yahoo.com/ar-268940-bio--Th...

WHOA COWBOY!!!! there will always be "THIS TALK" about my friend PORTER WAGONER!!!! now that that's clear...i'm not sure what's going on with the wilburn bros.are you asking if they are still around? Fool4tommy is pretty good at answering those type of questions, but i tellyou what ,I totally agree with on the 'BARTH BROOKS' statement!!!

PS..THE BEST OKIE'S I KNOW ARE JIM AND FLOSSIE HAGGARD..MERLE HAGGARD'S FOLKS!

RFD channel broadcasts old Wilburn Brothers shows (and Porter, and lots of others). There are several good box sets available. I know Bear Family has at least one. Proper has one also, and I believe JSP does as well.

Edit:
Well Fool4, I only have one thumbs down, you have two. Then again, you have one thumbs up. Who's winning? :)

I know they have both passed on...
