Mac Wiseman, I don't think John Prine helped him on this song, I'm not real clear on that! But the frist people that I ever heard do this song was the Carter Famliy!

I have a Boxcar willie cd with that song on it. Thats who it credits for writing it.

Well, I'm not sure who wrote it, But I Heard Roy Acuff sing it Many times on the Grand Ole Opry.....In fact, It Would not have been the same without Him singing it....(smile) (Still Isn't)

It was made popular by first The Carter Family then by Roy Acuff a few years later. But I think it is actually an old song from the 19th century.
