If you're willing to try "oldies" of your genre - Barry White is classic. Also, Chris Botti, trumpeteer is wonderful - his new Italia album is very good.

Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and the Supreames,, Witney Houston was great until she got on drugs, also search the 1960's, 70's early 1980's, Beatles, Elvis has one slow jam at least.
Your public libary most likely has a selection of CD's and tapes that you can check out. Walmart, major book stores, and some other record stores will allow you to listen to the music first.
