Major influences:
Guns N' Roses (by far, the biggest influence on their new material...most people who hates AX7's later work never ever listened to GNR)
Pantera (AX7 did a cover of Walk)
Metallica (ditto...the thrash metal work is quite good)

"As i lay dying"... if you dont mind a bit of screaming. Their latest album "an Ocean Between Us" is excellent. Unearth are similar too, well some is anyway. Maybe killswitch engage. and if you like the heavy stuff go with Lamb Of God or Trivium.

I love Avenged too.
There quite isnt any band out there like them, they're unique.
But yeah, i started Avenged side by side with Bullet for my Valentine, and they are pretty good as well.
There there is good Metal like Lamb of God and Trivium.
You should also consider Metallica, because they are one of Avenged's biggest influences.
A7X rock. I would suggest Bullet For My Valentine and maybe Atreyu (the old stuff) the new stuff, in my opinion, isn't as good. If you've heard some of the songs from Avenged's new album, which are totally amazing but different, they're very like Guns 'n' roses and Iron Maiden. As said above, i'd say take a look at Metallica because they were one of their major influences.
