Is it necessary to be fluent in English in order to write great songs?!

Question: My English is excellent, but i'm not a native speaker.

Answers: My English is excellent, but i'm not a native speaker.

No. There are plenty of great tunes that are in other languages. A lot that take advantage of multiple languages in the same tune. It's all about the sound. How the syllables string together. As far as the meaning the words mean what they mean regardless of what language they're in. It may be harder or perhaps not possible for many members of an english audience to understand what you're saying, but it can still be a great song.

And if you're working with english and don't speak it completely fluently you can use a thesaurus or stay with the words you know. Just tweak the words until you're happy with it.

No, not at all. Have you ever heard Dave Matthews speak? Or Shakira? They are superstars and their English ain't the most proper... ;-)

I'm assuming you mean writing songs in English... because obviously great songs are written in other languages.

It depends. I don't think being fluent or having good grammar is terribly important, but having a good sense of the musicality, flow, and rhythm of the language (whichever language you write in). You don't have to know a lot, but you have to know how to make it all fit together.

There are many people with immaculate language skills who couldn't write a good song/poem to save their life.

Music is composed of both lyrics and music, i.e., the notes.

The notes are a universal language, understood by anyone who knows music.

The lyrics may be written in any language.

Nope!
