Why did the jazz clubs of Manhattan fade out?!

Question: When television began to provide cheap entertainment on a national scale, people could buy a bottle of booze, which was much cheaper than in a niteclub, and be entertained at home for much less effort. The motion picture industry also took somewhat of a dive around this same period (mid 1950's-1970's). The world changed so much after TV. We didn't have to take the risk of going out to experience art and music.
