Will CD's be phased out in the next few years?!

Question: it's looking like all music is going to go digital. I just wonder if anyone will still buy CD's in the future....

You could say that, since every other musical medium has been phased out in the past. But there is one very important aspect of CD's that mp3's do not have...

album art

You don't get any album art when you download a song. The most you could get would be the album cover, but no art, liner notes or lyrics. There are plenty of true music fans still out there than can appreciate the art that goes into an album as well as the songs. So with that said I think CD's should still sell for a good long time.

I imagine they'll be phased out of mainstream production, much like cassette tapes (and all other predecessors). I know I'll still buy cds, though, just like I still buy cassettes.

Some people still prefer buying CDs. I probably will, but not many.

YES I THINK SO
BUT WHO REALLY KNOWS CASSETS WERE STILL AROUND A FEW YEARS BACK IF THERE NOT A ROUND NOW
BUT I THING THEY WOULD SWITCH TO DOWN LOADS ...BUT WHO REALLY KNOWS?
KEEP ROCKING

Not the way I buy cd's I buy so many that I could starte a music store my self, LOL
hay we have the same hat cool...

shes right^^^ I love to see album art to.

Probably. It happened to 45s, albums, 8 tracks, and cassettes.

Probably not anytime soon. Physical mediums are still more popular than digital, and since there's nothing worth upgrading to (music-DVDs were pretty much a flop), I expect CDs to stick around for a long time. People saying "it's happened before" aren't considering the major difference between CDs and previous formats, permanence. Records wore out from play, and tapes degraded whether or not they were played. Properly cared for, CDs have a virtually infinite shelf life. Incidentally, that's part of the reason record sales have declined over the years: People don't have to replace CDs anywhere near as often as tapes, and everyone has pretty much finished upgrading his tape collection to CDs and consequently many have cut back on their expenditures since they already have most of what they want. And since CDs have hit the ceiling as far as practicality goes, they'll likely be the last physical format.

CD's will always be around--- what if your computer crashes or you lose your ipod?--say goodbye to your music if it wasn't backed up--i'll always buy a cd first then upload it to my ipod for on the go music---besides if the whole cd is good i think most people still buy the actual cd, digital is great for when you only like a couple songs by an artist and dont want to waste $ on a whole cd you may not like that much but for a couple songs
