Which band puts out the best lyrics?!

Question: In your opinion, which band puts out the most meaningful, unique, clever, w/e... lyrics?

Overall, I'll go with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Kiedis uses some very clever and insightful lines, and I've never heard a song by them that I didn't like. One of my favorite bands, a lot of it because of the words I hear.

I think the Dead Kennedys was really good at getting their message out there. A lot of punk bands have tried to follow, but were just never as good. A lot of their music makes you feel like you're going insane, and they are also one of my favorites.

Velvet Underground
Dead Milkmen
i also agree with you on the Dead Kennedys..

P.S.

Bob Marley and The Wailors!!

In my opinion, Pink Floyd. Roger Waters is a lyrical genius. he doesn't just write songs, he writes concept albums that leave chills down my spine. And for the most part, almost everything he writes is relateble to just about everyone.

Smashing pumpkins
Rage against the machine
Stone sour

They all have great lyrics in their songs.

I think the Lovehammers have some really good lyrics because all of their songs have a meaning behind them.

A lot of people may not like this but I've always liked Billy Corgan's lyrics.

I forgot Leonard Cohen!

Tool

Bright Eyes

The Doors hands said.

I think guns n' roses had some pretty good lyrics.

lmfao at the guy who said my chemical romance + the 34857634875 thumbs down.

Guns'N'Roses, Queen and Prince & The Revolution/NPG

Led Zeppelin - they totally redefined the meaning of "lemon." If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you probably aren't a Led Head.

for amazing lyrics, i always look to bright eyes and okervil river and brand new.
my chemcial romance uses a lot of metaphors, and write about things people can relate to.
and i totally agree with you about the dead kennedys, out of all the political punk bands out there, them and choking victim are the best.
their use of sarcasm and satire is fantastic.

so, yea, those are my favs.

anyone who said any emo band or emo bands in general should have thier music privaleges taken now for my answer upon reading the question i thought zeppelin the girl above me is right zep redefined lemon with traveling riverside blues, the lemon song, and the very first part of for your life also they have VERY meaningful lyrics in some songs. in terms of uniqueness id say the beatles take that one but as a whole zeppelin was the king of lyrics my favorite song in terms of lyrics from zeppelin is "thank you" unbelievable lyrics

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

beatles

I love AFI or now Blaqk Audio, Davey Havok's writing sometimes forces me to crack open a dictionary to figure out what some of the words mean. They are always beautiful, the words to God Called In Sick Today are amazing.

Of course, Bob Dylan. Not a band, but definitely the best lyricist ever. Talks about everything, uses imagery when it can be used, etc.

Pink Floyd as well. Roger Waters, the lyricists, singer, and bassist, writes some stuff that really challenges you to think.

And the Beatles, but around their second half of the career. The first half was only good music, but after Lennon took a Dylan influence, the lyrics became better. And John Lennon solo as well.

The Who's Pete Townshend has some pretty simple lyrics, but they are great. "My Generation" has to be an ironic song now, especially if they still play it. Probably should change the lyrics to talk about old sixty year olds. Their two rock operas are genius.

Rush

Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Tool

I have to go with Pearl Jam. Eddie writes lyrics true and consice (when you can understand him of course) But even if I don't I tend to look them up, and really wonder where he comes up with them. He's easliy influenced and tells a beautiful story. You really have to look through the lyrics to find thier true meanings. And that to me is the definition of a great song writer.

Dead milkmen, chili peppers, dylan
these are in no order of what i like, just what i could think of (influenced by what im listening to)

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE!!! They are the best!

In my own opinion, I think Emo bands have the best lyrics.
Because they come from the heart, and are very true :]
