Question: nothing is legal concerning music if you download and not buy the cd yourself............if it was you singing your heart out and expressing your feelings to the world would you like the whole world to be able to donload for free......artists make a living out of this........would you download a shirt? or shampoo/ if only we could for free.you can but...in my opinion we should all support are favorite talented singers

It is legal to own, and legal to download not copyrighted material. But, basically anything you're going to want to download from there, music, programs, etc. is going to be illegal.
Limewire itself is. The downloading and sharing of copyrighted material is not.
Yes it's legal -- everyone on the face of the earth knows it exists so wouldn't you figure if the site was "illegal" it would have been taken off by now? It's shared music.
The software itself is legal. Current court precedent is that it is legal to download songs, but not to share/upload copyrighted material.

bullsnot. It is illegal to download music for free unless the artist' offers it to you for free. I use Limewire but I do not share my files. Why else would people who download hundreds of songs get busted by the police soo often, and without mention of burning cds?
Not by itself. If you use it to download licensed and copyrighted music, movies, or software then yes it is illegal. Someone above me said it's legal to download music for your own personal use as long as you don't make a copy, that's incorrect. If the music is copyrighted you can be sued.
its legal to share only files that are not copywritten. the medium of downloading and sharing files is legal, but its illegal to download copywritten material. limewire doesn't police the sharing of copywritten files, but lets you know you're taking a risk before downlaoding if you wish to still download it. they expect the user to police themselves and assume responsibility for what they choose to download.
