Who's gonna fill their shoes....?!

Question: When the possum came out with this song some years back. We still had a lot of the good ol' boys around..Waylon, Conway,Johnny and several others who have now passed on. So, my question is....Who if anyone can fill these shoes that have been left behind? Do you see anyone in the music industry today that may come close to filling these shoes.? Someone who Okie,Tommy, and several others will be quizzing you about someday?

1ST OF ALL TEX..THANKS A BUNCH FOR JOINING ME ~ FOOL 4 ~DAN~DRUSKI~COWBOY CHEVY~FORBES~JUBAL HARSHAW~MILLERS CAVE AND NEW COMER READY4THE COUNTRY..(hope i didn't miss anybody) FOR KEEPING THESE LEGENDS NAMES ON OUR TONGUES! IT MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH WHEN I READ NEWS LIKE "LEGENDARY OPRY STAR NEAR DEATH IN A NASHVILLE HOSPITAL"!!(please send up a COUNTRY prayer for PORTER WAGONER)
IT JUST ADDS MORE SALT TO THE WOUND! I FELT THE SAME WAY WHEN I HEARD THE NEWS ABOUT THE POSSUM..WAS IT 1998? MAN WAS THE GOOD LORD SMILING DOWN ON HIM???? I'M NOT GONNA PREACH BUT...I DON'T FEEL THAT EVEN HANK III OR EVEN NOEL HAGGARD NOR LORETTA'S TWIN GIRLS CAN CARRY ON THE LEGACY THAT THESE ICONS CREATED!!! IT'S TAKES SO MUCH MORE THAN JUMPING ON A MOVING TRAIN THAT'S ALREADY FILLED WITH COAL..CAUSE WHEN THAT SMOKE CLEARS, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN AND YOU GOTTA DO MORE THAN TALK THE TALK...THESE NEW COMERS SINCE EARLY 1980'S HAVE BEEN ON A FAST TRAIN TO NOWHERE..COUNTRY MUSIC HAS JUST TAKEN THEM FOR A LONG RIDE AROUND THIS "COUNTRY" AND KICKED MOST OF THEM OFF ONE BY ONE AND PICKED UP THE SHANIA'S ~ GRETCHEN'S AND TIM (HILL"S) AT THE NEXT STOP CAUSE THE FACES GOT PRETTIER AND THE BOOBS BIGGER AND THE SKIRTS SHORTER, THE "ROLLED UP SOCKS" INSIDE THE MEN'S JEANS...LONGER! I AGREE THAT ALAN JACKSON , GEORGE STRAIT,RANDY TRAVIS, LORRIE MORGAN,PAM TILLIS ETC...COULD POSSIBLY CARRY THE TORCH..BUT THESE BULLS~HITTING BIG WIGS WILL ALWAYS BE THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DON'T GET THAT "TRUE~REAL COUNTRY SOUND" ANYMORE! SAD MAN SO SAD!

Bottom line, no one will be able to fill their shoes. Legends lost is hard to deal with. That's how I feel about Bob Dylan. He's getting old and who will the next big song writer be? There is no answer!

Not as far as I'm concerned. NOBODY!!

No one can fill their shoes, that's why my favorite songs are on the classic radio stations, which are rare.

No, frankly, I don't. Aussie country music stars? I'm still a huge Randy Travis fan....although that might nauseate you. I got in on this wave in the 80's and loved it dearly...Clint Black, Garth....et. al. ....

I don't believe any one can.

Tex this is a very good question. I will attempt to answer it with my own opinion. The old saying "you don't miss the water till the well goes dry" really applies here. We have lost so many of the greats and a large number of them are approaching an age that leaves them succeptible to death and I dare not list their names here for fear one of them will be next then I would feel so badly for even mentioning them. I don't believe that anyone now on the scene can fill their shoes. It's true we have Alan Jackson,George Strait and a few more but in 20-30 years we may not even have them. We can take some solace in having their recordings to enjoy but when the day comes that we lose them then that is all we will have left. If one of these legends comes close to your town please take the time to go and see them and show your support and loyalty for all the years they have entertained you and I the listeners even at the expense of being on the road for weeks at a time and being away from their families. Death can be unkind and we need to enjoy the ones we have while they are still here. Thanks for the question and the opportunity to answer it.

Since no one is going to quite fill their shoes so to speak, I will base my predictions on who I think I might still be listening to when they are old and grey. No, I should take that back. I should say will still be performing when they are old and grey.
I think Randy Travis, George Strait, Alan Jackson and Toby Keith most likely are here for the long haul

I hope
Dwight Yoakam and Travis Tritt will be

and I think a few newer artist may see some longevity,
Josh Turner and Blake Shelton are just two off the top of my head that I think are smart and mindful enough to play it right and stay in the game but these are only opinions

Well, poop...looks like I forgot some female singers, I have no doubt I will still be seeing Dolly performing as long as she wants to, Reba will probably also be here, I love Martina's voice but I couldn't guess if she will be or not. I would like to see Gretchen Wilson keep fighting for her place and as much as I have always liked Leann Rhimes, not sure about her either.

I didn't mention any groups because it is so hard to say and the odds of one member venturing out on their own is too great with the exception of Brooks and Dunn; I definitely think they will be here for as long as they choose to be.

I cannot think of a one, except Josh Turner. I just listen to the music I have collected over the years.

There are allot of great bands and singers out there But I don't think anyone could fell there shoes. The music , sadly is what it used to be. and I don't think it ever will be again. when I was growing up in the 80's my mom Played George Jones all the time and I fell in love with his music and others like Waylon and Conway. Even when I was a kid the music had changed allot but now day Country is becoming more and more like rock music or pop. I have started making my kids listen to George and all of the greats artiest so that someday they my make there kids lesson. So that the true country sound won't be forgot.

The music business prevents anyone who is truly original from ever making an album. Try to imagine Johnny Cash, George Jones, Waylon Jennings and so many others trying to break into the business today. They would be turned away. You have to sound just like everybody else to get a recording contract. There's no room for anyone different or original. That's why nobody can fill their shoes.

Maybe George Strait, Clint Black and Travis Tritt, but they're pretty old already also. Oh, how about Gretchen Wilson, LeAnn Womack, and Diamond Rio.

I don't really think anyone is going to be "True Country" music again. Just enjoy the Classics.

How bout Hank Williams III? He is out there pounding the road, doing it the hard way, doing his own way, just like Waylon, and Jones. The underground country that nashville is scared of is keeping it alive, the outlaw spirit, the real country.

DAMN OKIE!!!! you don't short stop do ya? i ain't never getting on your bad side..serioulsy though I agree with you 100%..i was gonna answer, but you took the words right out of my mouth!
