Classic Country Fans: What was the first album you ever owned?!

Question: Mine was Charlie Rich's Behind Closed Doors album. I was born in '69, and that album came out in '73, so I had to be four years old. It was an orange 8-track my parents bought and I comandeered. Wore it out. Got another one that was brown. Still have it. I later bought a vinyl copy during my early record collecting travels, and now I have it on CD. To this day, it's always out on top of the player.

Oh, and my first 45 was Marty Robbins, "Some Memories Won't Die." I was 14 when it came out and I bought it. Some 3,000 45s have amassed around that one since then!

My first album was a Hank Williams album followed by a Johnny Horton album. Guess I should have found one by Billie Jean to put between the two of them but I didn't. In case some of you don't know Billie Jean was married to Hank first and Johnny later. I still have them both in my vast collection.

Patsy Cline. I still have a lot of her music ( on CD of course ) It still sounds as good today as when she was alive. Her music is timeless.

The first one I remember is Barbara Mandrell.

Garth Brooks "Ropin the Wind." Hey, I'm a lil'un.

It's called COUNTRY CALVACADE OF STARS with a bunch of artist..including my HERO MERLE HAGGARD..MY 1st 45 was SING ME BACK HOME...MMMMMM HOW I WAS ALWAYS ATTRACTED TO THE SQUEAL OF THAT STEEL GUITAR!

My first, I think, was either the Statler Bros or Jim Reeves. Jim Reeves had a beautifully smooth voice. The Statler Bros had such perfect harmony that I listened to them for hours. Don't remember the names of these albums, tho. One song the Statlers sang that was just so out of the norm was called "Saturday Morning Radio Show." If you get a chance, look it up.

And, yes, there is the incomparable Marty Robbins. You have good taste!

It was Barbara Mandrell's Live album. But the first one I ever purchased with my own money was Dolly Parton's 9 to 5.

:-)

Edit: zil28, where were you when I was getting beat up for being country when country wasn't cool?? LOL... Good choice! :-)

Dusti, my parent bought that one too, and I loved that one & Queen of the Silver Dollar. (I think I wanted to be a barfly when I grew up... LOL)

Emmy Lou Harris, I don't know the album name or year it came out, I am sure my parents bought it when I was a kid, but my favorite song I made them play over and over and over was Two More Bottles of Wine. I guess I loved that song until I heard Islands in the Stream, that was my favorite song for years.

First one was a Country Mix that K-Tel use to sell you know the greatest hits for 1970's
