All great songs! Could be debated as to whether or not they are the best by them or not, just the 1st ones that jumped out for me.

david bowie fame although he did a great version of little drummer boy with bing crosby that was excellent and the music video was good too.

In my opinion...
David Bowie: Either "Life on Mars" or "Five Years", but he's got TONS of awesome music.
Cat Stevens: It's cliche, but I love "A Wild World."
Elton John: "Border Song." Awesome, and has a good lesson.
Leonard Cohen: "Hallelujah". That's the song that Jeff Buckley covered and also the song Rufus Wainright sang for the first Shrek movie.
