Do you consider yourself to be a music snob?!

Question: I do, but probably not in the traditional sense, where I wouldn't speak to anyone who didn't own at least three Leonard Cohen bootlegs recorded in Paris.

I consider myself a snob in the sense that my choices in music are much better than the average music fan, and that I can, if necessary, defend those choices on the spot to whomever I need to with solid reasoning as to why I'm a fan.

..... kinda hard to be a music snob when your CD collection is saturated with bands that wore more make up than your 9th grade girlfriend, but in a sense, yes. I can give you 100 reasons why Faster Pussycat is a better band than any of the radio drivel currently playing on your local top 40 station. Hell, I can even give you 5 whole reasons why Trixter is a better band than any of the radio drivel. I may be able to come up with one reason for sLaughter.

80s metal aside, my musical tastes are oddly diverse in that I can go from Jim Croce to Anthrax to Waylon Jennings and not even bat an eye. I have a deep rooted respect for any quality music regardless of its genre. If it's good, it's good... and if it's not, it's probably the #1 song in the country.

NP: "Woman" - Childs Play

No. I am pretty open-minded when it comes to music. If anything, I am a lyrics snob. I don't usually like songs that have crappy lyrics with all the same metaphors that have been used a billion times before. That is why I love bands like Pearl Jam, The Killers, Muse...these bands make songs with really thought-provoking and powerful lyrics. However, I am a sucker for a good pop song, so I guess sometimes I'll even let crappy lyrics slide for a good clubby beat.

Just maybe... !

I can't stand that meaningless, mindless rubbish that passes for music among most people my age.

Give me lyrics, and depth, and talent!

No.
I defend My Chemical Romance and Fallout Boy on this site, despite the fact I don't like either band (I mostly play devil's advocate when the hate gets a little over the top). That's pretty far from snob.
If someone challenges a band I like, I just tell them "I feel bad for you. You can't appreciate the pure majesty that is _____."

I am pretty open to most music. But then again I'm pretty snobby when it comes to music I don't listen to, which I'm sure I could defend why also. One question I hate when people ask me is, "Why do you listen to weird music?." I say to them, It's not weird...It's just not mainstream and corporate like your music.

Not at all. There are bands I don't like and obviously if someone's got Slayer, Metallica, Slipknot etc stickers all over their car, we probably wouldn't be friends just on the basis that certain things attract certain types of people (like holiday-themed sweaters with bobbles will generally appeal to teachers and old ladies) and I usually don't have a whole lot in common with the heavy-metallers. Past that, however, I can't stand people who talk about music. It's a personal thing for me, and people will talk about it like they're discussing sports scores...just enjoy the music! Jesus!

there is just some act out there that are a joke as long as the vocals lyrics and music mixes great i don't care
don't mean any disrespect but why sing about an umbrella or i wanna have ur baby i know these cuz MTV wont drop it with all the **** that they play all the time.....sorry

Absolutely. I consider all of my music choices and obsessions to be superior to basically all others in regards to quality and integrity. Anytime I hear people talk about the latest My Chemical Romance album or 50 Cent I can feel myself instantly go in to fight mode.

It doesn't matter at all that I am still stuck in the mid-90s and am just hoping upon hope for a Soundgarden reunion. It just seems like almost every aspect of the music industry has driven down the quality of everything that is produced these days. And don't even get me started on jam bands...

However, it does end up being rough when you end up having less and less to look forward to. You end up just waiting around for Pearl Jam, Muse, and Tool. I remember 10 years ago when there was always some group I like coming out with an album.

Not at all. I have some fun poking fun at universally loathed artists. However, most of what I listen to today is relatively mainstream. Also, I try to be fair in that I'll give anything a listen before issuing judgment. At this point in life, I am far removed from the indie elitist days.

what i can't really stand is when people from other genre just come up mocking another genre of music... they really should open their eyes.
andi could be a snob or not, i guess it just depends on how much i just like my music taste at the time...

Hi ya handsome.

I do, yes. especially when I was young.

I was into Jimi Hendrix when I was young and I had no desire to see Elvis Presley though he came here about 5 times. I regret that I did not go see him. I saw Hendrix though in 1967.

I despise rap $hit.

I do like a lot of music from Schubert to Metallica, to 3 Days Grace to Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.

Not at all. I mean, I AM a snob of many things...music is not one though. I pretty much like any kind of music. The only rule I have is that I have to be able to understand the lyrics. For me, that's the main interest...the lyrics.

Someone once said to me, "Music is the soundtrack to our lives" and I have to say, I agree completely.

I do, however, appreciate your passion for music.

Yeah, i do.

I have a specific taste in music that, if it isn't met, i won't listen intently

I'll listen for a friend, bt if they're not good, i'll tell them gently..

actual bands?

same thing... only... i just don't listen to them from then on.

I suppose I am a little, but not nearly as bad as some people I met. Sometimes I tend to frown upon people who never listen beyond what the radio shoves down their throats. I listen to a lot of popular and mainstream stuff, but I'm also open to lesser known artists, as well as entire albums rather than just the hits. I'm quite good at remembering the names and chronological order of albums, the year they were released, the names of the band members, ect. But as I said earlier, I'm not as bad as other music snobs. I once worked in a store that sold used CDs, and everyone else that worked there was strictly into all indy music and acoustic hippy stuff. Some of that stuff is ok, I like my share of artsy stuff as well, but most of them wouldn't talk to me much or would make little smart-*** remarks because I liked different music than them. They acted like they were too good for me because I also liked Metallica, AC/DC, Godsmack and Shinedown. I can also appriciate Radiohead, NIN, Tool, The Cure, Muse, but they listened to some really awful stuff. One CD this guy played in the store a lot was literally just noise, I don't know how he could stand it.

Gotta say yes to this one. :)

If not accepting mediocrity & 'fast food" music is considered snobbish, then I'm proud to say I am one.

Totally. When you listen to Elvis and The Beatles and people around you listen to MCR and FOB you gotta consider yourself a music snob.

Yeah.
i hate radio, and i hate classic rock too. hate emo, hate screamo and metal, with only two exceptions of The Plasmatics and Alice Cooper.
I have a bad habit of confronting anyone with shitty taste. That's why i only have two friends i guess. nobodies ever heard of "Nasal Sex" or "Porn Flakes" ....Jack Acid, Honeylung, Corrupted Morals.....stray cats....

I don't really consider myself a music snob as I don't like being trapped in one genre or decade, which sometimes seems to be the case with some music snobs. However, I do catch myself feeling superior to people who aren't real music fans. You know, people who listen to whatever's on the radio as long as it's low enough to talk over and are irked with me when I turn up my music and start moving with the rhythm.

yes... music is a constant in my life, and it kills me when people think "last kiss" is a pearl jam original and that blink 182 is punk... all of the music i fell in love with when i first started to care, i researched to no end to find out their origins, influences, even down to what kind of guitar strings they prefer... i associate music with integral points in my life - i remember what song was playing when i met my husband, and what songs i listened to on repeat in grade eight when my boyfriend broke up with me. when someone likes a song because it talks about a certain brand of shoes or make of car, it disappoints me. music should be about feeling and emotions - not cash and fads.

most of the time. i do listen to rock/alternative/metal stuff. and a scarcely little or rhythm and blues and NO RAP. Rap sucks to me. No truth in it. sorry....

Yes I do, in the same way that you do.
I'm very selective about who's opinions on music I'll listen too. Also my opinion on music I regard it pretty highly, I'll laugh about me liking a band thats a little odd, but I'll still say that think that their awesome.
