What classical music makes you cry, not because it's a "sad" piece!

Question: it just wells up in you. Men don't be shy to give an answer.

Ralph Vaughan Williams, 'Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis' and 'The Lark Ascending'.
Edward Elgar, cello concerto.

Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata Second Mvmt.

Walked down the aisle to that song!

I love Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings."

Handel's Messiah

Mozart's Mass in C Minor

Verdi's opera La Traviata

Beethoven's 9th Symphony

Vivaldi- the four seasons...I think summer is played often at weddings Oh and Ave Maria-Pavarottti rest in peace

Raindrop Prelude - Chopin
Moonlight Sonata Movement 2 - Beethoven
Hallelujah Chorus - Handel

The end of the Act 4 Finale of Le Nozze di Figaro, "Ah tutti contenti, saremo cosi..." Perhaps the most sublime ensemble writing, ever (in my opinion). It never fails to bring a tear to my eye.

"Scheherazade" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov

No matter how many times I listen to it, the music continues to affect me deeply.

Certain parts of "Polovtsian Dances" from "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin also can be rather overwhelming.

Actually, I probably cry over music more than I do movies although certain film scores can "get" me, usually more than what film action is occurring.

well, I have just recently added a youtube video clip to my favourites : Sumi Jo singing Ave Maria by Caccini.
Goodness ; beautiful stuff.

A lot of the violin repertoire will have that effect on me ; just too many pieces to name here. I wish I could play them LOL

Ralph Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis. ( beautifully used in the film Master and Commander).

Gabriel's Oboe ( from the movie The Mission) by Ennio Morricone ; I know it is a movie theme but I would have to call this classical music.

Generally, it's opera, some "Finales" are very sad but also beautiful (La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Suor Angelica by Puccini, Andrea Chenier by Giordano, La Gioconda by Ponchielli...)
Some instrumental music that makes me cry:
-Mascagni: Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo
-Tchaikovsky: Symphony No6: 1st. mov.
-Shostakovich: Suite Jazz No2: Lyric Waltz
-Ravel: Piano Concerto in G: Adagio assai
-Chopin: Piano Concerto No1: Romance
-Satie: Gymnopedie No1
The list is so long...

Dvorák: Stabat Mater (final movement "Quartetto e Coro 'Quando corpus morietur'" ) about 1 min & 30 secs in is where it hits me, every time. The whole work is gorgeous, but the tears always flow when the orchestra drops out and the chorus soars on the words "paradisi gloria."
