Most embarrassing comeback attempt by a musical artist?!

Question: I'll cast my vote for Guns N' Roses (or, at least, the current incarnation of it). When Axl and company appeared on the 2002 MTV Awards, it was intended to be a rebirth of the band. It was clear that he was not only performing to an audience that wasn't that into it, but that he wasn't able to hit the notes that he once was. He had eroded from the world's biggest rock star into a parody of a rock star.

GNR had their window. Without a doubt, they were at one time, the most popular band in the world, and Axl pissed it away. Twice. Most people don't get even one shot in life at the brass ring. Axl had two; he blew them both.

Your thoughts on my rant, or your own contributions are welcome.

I had the opportunity to see Lou Gramm, formerly of Foreigner, do a concert at an event in Michigan. It was painful too watch and listen to. With his health problems, his voice is gone, and the band was out of synch. Very amateurish; he should have stayed retired!

Britney Spears is up there as well

I think we all know who the obvious choice here is ...*cough* britney *cough*. But, I think any come back attempt from a has been is embarrassing in its own right.

Britney Spears made an absolutely terrible comeback, I mean it was absolutely terrible.

Britney Spears at this years MTV awards. Her bra & panties only outfit with her fat jiggling everywhere and her gut hanging out. Her not even lip syncing (sp?) to the words in time! And acting like she didn't even want to be there. It was pathetic.

Aw come on... what about Michael Jackson?

The doobie brothers. i saw them a couple years back and they had the worst show as they only performed the new album they had out at the time and only did a couple of classics

it;s not really a comeback, but i am embarassed that bob dylan still thinks he's got anything to offer the music world. his old stuff is so good, but he is such an embarassment now, i can't listen to free wheelin bob dylan without cringing.

i wish paul mccartney would f*** off too.

omg, i went to see lee perry a couple of years ago and his mind is so shot by weed all he can do is stand on the stage at hit his nyahman stick on the floor. again, in his time he was a great, but now he's just a bit sad.

I would say Britney. I doubt there is anyone else who had an even worse "come back".

Well since everyone said Britney already. Im going to add Michael Jackson. His comeback a little while back was kind of sad compared to how beloved he used to be...and on top of that he got the reputation of being a little boy lovin pedophile with a really really weird face thanks to all that plastic surgery.

ok, Britney doesn't count because she was never that great to begin with.
GNR has to be number one. They were a great band in the 90s and the MTV performance was pitiful. Buckethead was a joke. What kind of idiot runs around with a empty KFC bucket on his head. And Axl could barely catch his breath when running on stage.
My personal experience was seeing David Lee Roth in concert with Sammy Hagar. David was so old looking it was pathetic. He even tried to do the jump splits like back in the good ole days with Van-Halen and only got about 2 inches off the ground. It was just awful.... Now I'm still going to try and go see him in the Van-Halen reunion, but I'm not expecting much.... speaking of embarrasing comebacks.. this might be up there. But I'm still going to go see it!!!!

Lisa scott-lee! Got to be..she promised to quit if she didn't get a number one!! So why is she still trying...get rid!!

what about vanilla ice??? coming back as heavy metal. that was really embarrassing.

I'll second G'NR, and James M is absolutely dead on correct about Lou Gramm. I realize the guy is trying to come back from a brain tumor, but there has to be a point where you look in the mirror and say a) I don't look like Lou Gramm anymore, and image is still important in the music biz. I'm fat, out of shape, and quite frankly, no one in their right mind is going to look at me and get "hot blooded". b) My voice is shot. The high notes are completely out of reach, and the low notes are just plain off key. c) If the best paying gig that I can get these days is the Destin Sea Food Festival, is it even worth embarassing myself for?

He's no longer the dirty white boy, he's just a sad old man.

NP: "The Reason a Dog" - Aerosmith

Modern Times by Bob Dylan is an amazing album, and it was released in 2006. If anyone says he's not as good as he used to be, I'm highly suspicious that they haven't been following his recent career moves. I saw him in concert on Friday night, and while it probably wasn't as good as he was a few decades ago, the man still has more talent in his left big toe than most musical "artists" today.

Uh, yeah. I have nothing to add to the actual question. Just responding to an answer.

I agree with what you said about GN'R. They were the biggest band in the world, and then Axl went on a powertrip and pushed away or fired the rest of the band. He's very mistaken if he thinks that the band can all but disappear for nearly 15 years and come back with a completely different band and completely different sound and have the same success they once did. Even if the new album actually comes out and it's amazing, it still won't be Guns N' Roses. That performance at the VMAs was pretty weak, but I think one of the worst comeback attempts was recently with Britney Spears' performance at the VMAs. I never liked her to begin with, but wow...that was bad.
