How do I count 3 half notes in a triplet in 2/4 time?!

Question: I'm in a Jazz band and I'm slightly new at it. Well I came across some weird counting. So now I'm wondering, how do I count 3 half notes in a triplet in 2/4 time? I'm not sure if it comes donw to simple math or if it's an odd counting or what. Thoughts please!

it's a 3-note musical expression played within one measure. It's essentially the same as having two sets of triplets in 4/4 time - same rhythm, just half the notes. in 4/4 you have 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, and within that 4 you have 1,2,3,4,5,6 as your notes. Cut that in half, and you have a 2/4 triplet.

Ask your teacher....'cause i simply have to hum it out or clap it out to you ...in other terms, i can't really explained it in writing....and it's simple math when you count it, but weird yet interesting rhythm when played, you'll understand when you manage to sort it out... sorry!!

Not as hard as you think, also 3 HALF notes are impossible to play in the span of 2 beats unless its a triplet over the barline (which sounds cool), however 3 QUARTER notes over 2 beats is feasible. It a form of metric modulation where your actually playing another meter, in this case 3/4, over 2/4. Theres really not easy way of explaining it in words, you have to feel it or hear it to truly understand whats going on. Nicholas Payton does this a lot while soloing.

Easiest way to go at it is thinking like "Ok I got this many notes to play and I have this amount of time to play them in, play them in a way that there even and consistent" Of course this doesnt hold true if you have quintuplets or any sort of bracketed rythym pattern with a number under it
