Was the grunge scene more popular than the punk scene in the 90's?!

Question: I mean in the mainstream. (not like underground punk/grunge)

Cause it seems as though the rise in popularity in grunge music was more significant than punk music at the time. Was it?

Yes, unfortunately. Punk scene didn't really come into play until late 90's, early 2000s, Grunge ruled from 90~98, However, Punk bands were not completely ignored, Sublime and Bad Religion brought Punk alot of notoriety, not to mention the Ramones, and the Sex Pistols.
yes
yes, give me best answer please
yeah i think so you had bands like Nirvana that were on the radio every hour while bands like dope were never on and was and is a better band
Yes it was, but punk is way better than grunge.
thanks to bands like alice in chains and nirvana the grunge scene was more popular..
The Grunge scene, thanks to Nirvana and Alice in chains.
Grunge was way more popular in the 90's. Think about some of the bands:

Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins (some), Bush, Collective Soul, Stone Temple Pilots, early Foo Fighters, Screaming Trees.

Grunge dominated the airwaves for awhile. Even if you just take out Nirvana and Pearl Jam from that list, they probably had more popularity than all the punk bands of the 90's combined.

Punk is an older genre though and had already developed. Grunge also has its roots in punk. But during the 90's grunge was definately more popular.
Punk is less boring than grunge.
Grunge was clearly more popular than punk during the 90's. It wasn't even close. What ended up emerging were poser pop punk bands like Green Day and Blink 182.
It was certainly better - that's why!!
Well by definition, Punk is an underground movement and therefor a lot less mainstream, however as punk bands signed on to major record labels, they pretty much had sold out and become mainstream alternative, so by definition, the Alternative Scene was more popular.
Of course, punk scene was from the endings of 70's and beginnings of 80's...
