Does anyone think that ian curtis was a very overrated singer/artist.?!
Question: personally i think that if he hadnt died so young, causing everyone to romantacise him so much, as this dark tortured soul (he was married for gods sake, thats more than i am and im roughly his age now and havent even got a partner) most people, would just have seen him for what he was. a dull whiny tuneless singer. i will admit his lyrics were good, but not up to the standard of someone like richey edwards of the manics.

I tend to agree with you, often when singers die young (Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix, Phil Lynott etc.) they are idolised more regardless of how good they actually were (having said that these guys were all terrific musicians). I love a few of Joy Divisions songs, but there have been plenty of other singer / song writers that far surpass anything Ian Curtis ever did. This latest film is yet another scheme by film makers to cash in on an interesting story about a musician who showed signs of talent and then went weird and topped himself.
I became a fan of his largely because I identified with his persona. It didn't matter to me whether he had talent or not although I do like the music.
Joy Division were not a hugely popular band.
Most people were listening to he likes of ABBA and Boney M then.
Most people just didn't 'get it'.
The Manics are a decent band but it's still populist stuff, nothing ground-breaking.
I do like both though!
