Recording Studio???!

Question: people are always telling me that i have a great voice. and i guess i do...i take voice lessons and i'm in some of the better choruses at school. so i had a great idea! i wanted to go to a recording studio and like make a CD...not a long one...probably just about 10 tracks or so. and then i would give it to family/friends for Christmas. i never really give hearfelt gifts...its normally me asking people what they want and getting that exact thing for them...or just giving them a gift card. so i want to give heartfelt gifts this year. and i though this would really come from the heart. so i was wondering what i should look for in a recording studio. i'm not gonna go to a really expensive one 'cause i live in the middles of nowhere and i couldnt afford it even if i did live near one. so...what should i look for in a recording studio?? also, what do you think about this track list?? do you think it would go together well??

That is a great idea to get noticed with your talent! And yes those songs sound perfect! But it can be a little expensive, as someone said above me. Probably the most inexpensive would be about $50.00. You should get that software program on your computer that lets you record music: http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/. Your dad, mom, or older brother or sister would probably have to help you, though. I hope I helped and good luck recording your songs! I'm sure it will sound great! :) ?
having a cd produced in a recording studio is VERY VERY expensive....upwards of $600 an hour during the day. It's a lot cheaper in the middle of the night though, like 2am, it can be half that. The thing is, you have to have a producer to run the boards while you sing, then someone to edit it---you also have to pay them.

If you're thinking about doing a demo, you only need 4 songs. They can mostly be covers, but you should try and put some of your own music on it. The advice I got when I first started recording was to get a 4 track and record the music myself, demo's don't need to be professionally produced, there's no point since there are no guarantees. A good demo with 4 songs will cost about 2,000-3,000, depending on where you go.
Less is more.

A minute of recorded time is at least an hour of studio time.

Find a good sound engineer in your area who can do what you like at a price you can afford. Then, once you work out the details, commence the rocking. It will cost a little, so think of this more as self-PR than a gift. This will hopefully be copied and distributed. Sell yourself.
