Who in your mind Killed Country Music....?!

Question: Nobody saw them running
From 16th Avenue
They never found the fingerprints
Or the weapon that was used
But someone killed country music
Cut out its heart and soul
They got away with murder
Down on music row

Who are the ones in your mind that did this dreaded selfish act?
Let's bring them into the light and deal with them.

I call fourth.....
1.Kenny (needs to stay on his little island) Chesney
2.Tim(please don't grab my ball's) McGraw
3.Faith(Those are my balls not yours) Hill
4.Taylor(I'd like to swift kick right thru the uprights) Swift
5.Carrie(Wanna be a singer) Underwood

I know you can name some more...So let's get to it.

Music Row killed country music long before most (maybe all) of the artists you listed were even born!

If you want to go after someone who made today's form of "country" music popular, how about Garth Brooks?
Alan Jackson and George Strait and the title is "Murder On Music Row". It was a long process whereby the bigwigs in Nashville started to kill off the real music years ago by getting the CEO's out of New York involved. Gaylord also did its part to destroy what we one time knew as real country music
Hey,
Ive always wanted to do this too! Here are some that I think we will both agree on.
Brooks and Dunn, Shania Twain, Garth Brooks!, George (is not) Srait, Keith (Im an Aussie!) Urban, Brad (Muddie)Paisley, and notice how I save the worst for last!!!
Toby Keith
Hope I Helped, Tyler
Like all types of music, radio killed it. Long live Steve Earle, Townes Van Zant, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hank Williams III, Avett Brothers and all others who play real country music.
I'd say whoever it was that turned it into mid 90s college rock...
It's not dead, It's just taking a break
Sorry but Tim still sings Country. The ones who KILLED Country music was the INSTITUTION that is Nashville. The same ones that MOVED THE OPRY years back(yeah I know it is back in the Ryman but STILL). The same ones that moved the award show to New York. Wasn't it Waylon who did the song years back If Hank could only see us now. Country was on life support before these people, and it wouldn't have even gotten back to life support had it not been for the group that came out to bring BACK country. Just like when Viacom(MTV) bought CMT and "upgraded" things so they couldn't list song writters anymore. Seriously though you should look up Waylon's song "If Hank could only see us now".

Hey Cal boy I disagree about George Straight. I sometimes question his music and how country he is, but never would put him in with those who have killed Country. Now Brooks and Dunn have SOLD OUT(notice how Ronnie lost the whine?) and Garth Brooks has probably done more to help bring the pop into country then most when you think about it. Shania was never thought to really be country, most guys just gawked at her.
The whole New Country movement killed country.

Growing up in South Side CHICAGO, my mom and I used to listen to Real Country -- can you believe it?

New Country is just POP with boots and a hat.

And if that's country, then country is dead, by the hands of New Country itself.
1. Kid Rock.
2. John Michael Montgomery.
3. Big & Rich.
4. Chris Cagle.
5. Buddy Jewell.

Reviews:

Kid Rock - Disgraceful.
John Michael Montgomery - Boring.
Big & Rich - More annoying than Eminem.
Chris Cagle - Lame.
Buddy Jewell - Poor.

There are many, many more. =)

P.S.

I dislike a lot of country.
the dixie chicks(natalie killed it with her bad voice)
I think it is a combination of the so called record producers and the people who buy the music of todays so called country. If no one bought the new crap then thre would be no new crap therefore country might actually make a comeback.
I still like Brooks and Dunn by the way. Garth Brooks I think is a jerk and George Strait well never have never will like him.
i say i love the NEW country music better than the old stuff......times change, so does music:P
Jessica (whose boots were made for prostitution) Simpson
I think Carrie Underwood is horrible. The best country musician in my opinion is Keith Urban.
New country killed Country Music

bring back Willie and Hank and Conway
Carrie Under'wear'.
George Strait. I will never forget the first time I heard his bastardized version of Amarillo By Morning, a once beautiful song in 4/4 time and a low piano melody by Terry Stafford. I was working in country radio at the time, and I wanted to refuse to play it on the air, but of course, because of my integrity, I grinned and got through it each time. Then there's the likes of The Fireman and Unwound, or Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, or All My Exes Live In Texas. What a "cutesy," irritating song that gives Country music such a bad stereotype. Marina Del Rey is a good song, but it's a pop song. Nothing to do with country whatsoever. And his concerts. The man is not an entertainer like so many country artists before him. He is cold and impersonal and just sits his butt on a stool for the whole show and sings his songs. No interaction with the audience, no funny stories, nothing.

And I know the man can do better. That's what irks me about him. Songs like If You're Thinkin' You Want A Stranger and The Cowboy Rides Away, Baby Blue and Gotten Good At Goodbye are great songs. He should have stuck with those.

As a kid, I knew George had made it because his *** looks good in a pair of Wranglers, and that's it. I think there were much better artists out there at the time, and I think there were much better artists who didn't make it.

He really did begin the plastic, all-sound-alike era of country music that paved the way for such boring, no-name sensations like Garth Brooks. Today, good country songs are few and far between, and the male artists all sound like George Strait.
cowboy troy
The Dixie Chicks. I don't think they are "country music". They had some music out and then talked their trash about our president and country. How ashamed they were to be from the same state as our president. That wasn't a very good idea. Sorry but they killed it.

EDIT: I starred you for saying George Strait didn't destroy country music.
I think alot of people answered you b4 reading the whole question... they thought that you were asking who sang that song.

I STRONGLY believe that George, Garth, & Tim has kept country strong. Alot of the new people try to give country that pop sound, but hell.. if i wanted to listen to pop, i'd change the channel. Leave country how it was... If people don't like it -- DON'T LISTEN! :-)
UGH...there are so many! But, I would have to say Big and Rich (will all their Cowboy Troy crap!)
I would have to disagree with a few of the suggestions made by others... However, most of them I can agree wholeheartedly with. While George Strait may have taken a few classics and put his own twist on them, he is still a great country artist. Big & Rich, on the other hand, are the bastard child of country, rock, pop, rap, and God knows what else. Disgraceful that they are even in the "Country" section in the record stores.
The Almighty Dollar killed country, kids get their contract and start off with Something that MIGHT be considered country or a religious theme and then once they get their feet wet they start singing Badoonkadonk or some other crap. When, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Conway and the list goes on, cut a new record you did'nt have to guess if it was country, You could buy it sound unheard
Call fourth? or Forth?

Garth Brooks really. He started this stuff....

Although I do like most of his songs......

And While I Love George, wish he actually wrote some of that stuff he sings about....really
Stars on the Water? Overnight Male? That's considered country?

But truly, why you have to classify at all really. I've found I like old and new and really don't think one way or the other about where it fits in in the music stores....they'll do away with such things before too long anyway.
Country music has been dead nearly my entire life. Of course when I was growing up in the 80's and 90's I thought that Alan Jackson, Garth, Reba, Trisha Yearwood, etc.. were wonderful country artists. I learned how badly I was mistaken when I went to college and my music horizons broadend exponetially. I fell in love with Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Haggard, Hank Sr, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Tom. T Hall, Mickey Newbury, Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, John Prine, and Townes Van Zandt. Now to be perfectly honest, I don't listen to the radio anymore. Country radio is dead to me. It makes me sick to hear Toby Keith asking whos my daddy, Carrie crying for Jesus, and Kenny trying to decide how many different songs he can assign the same lyrics to. I am tired of it. I want the country that I love back. And the sad part is, I don't think it's gonna happen.
